Prototyping subtitled Drama CD support - feedback wanted!

@intec - Can be good to learn japanese even on this media but i guess drama cd don't have japanese script subs, i mean from a japanese point of view is useless since is their native language. Scanlators and subbers have to create them from scratch like a normal fansub minus the video.

There's not necessarily any manga counterpart to an audio drama. In this case there does happen to be, but it covers multiple chapters with some minor differences and has some original dialogue as well.

Oh, that's something I forgot to give credit to: the existing English translations of the manga were used as a basis for the drama translation, which can be seen in some of the phrasing choices. I did some editing and made fixes and changes, but a decent chunk of the original was so spot on there was little reason to change it just to be different.

I'm incredibly surprised by this wave of feedback (and interest).
I didn't even know about Drama CDs until ixlone came to me to see if I was interested in taking part of this to widen the audience to the French language.
While for now I'm not "that" interested about it, it's mostly because I had absolutely no idea this even existed, hence why I'm not aware of the quality of Drama CDs in general.
However, should a DramaDex (a central for Drama CD and their translations) happen, I'll definitely take interest in it, at the very least for the series I'm following.

Yeah, good point.

We had a "Japanese media translation" course at my university. First we had to translate japanese subtitles at viki.com, later we made subtitles for audio files. The later was a pain in the ass compared to the subtitle tranlation.

Hm, I really like the way it's implemented. It's simple, fast, and gives you what you want from media such as this one. It's also unique, which makes it very valuable.
On the other hand, it's awesome for people learning Japanese, because it helps them practice hearing without other distractions.
Way to go, people!

Sounds good to me, I know occasionally "buy the CD drama!" ads show up in the shoujo manga I'm reading but I've never witnessed one personally; it would be pretty cool if at some point in the distant future I could just click on links in mangadex when fan-translations exist.

I've always been interested in the Arifureta drama CDs. Along with some other ones. I'd definitely be interested if someone translates! It looks like a well laid out page as well.

This is great. It's simple, clean, and not having to deal with things like YouTube is great. I like how it's just text and audio, not wasting space with video.

Though I couldn't get it working on chrome for iphone.

I saw a size difference but I didn't notice any difference in presentation or how it worked. All of them seemed fine from a consumer point of view.

I think the way that it currently is laid out is very good and that this would be a very, VERY good tool for people trying to practice their Japanese listening for when anime is too difficult to use as a studying basis. It would also become a very good way of encouraging even more translation~

That's a nice idea! But wouldn't there be an issue concerning copyrights? From what I've seen drama CD studios are more DMCA happy than manga publishers.

Also why not go also for the novels? It's probably easier to implement than drama CD translations and there's no translator friendly aggregator that I know of.

If you can't hear a difference, don't worry about it. Other than being an audiophile / data saving thing, different browsers may support different formats, so it's ideal to serve multiple types.

Well, in this case, I will commenting as Android User (Using Google Chrome for Android)

I saw the subtitle text were bit awkward since it make the page like moving up and down. Well, this one not really a huge problem, instead something that called for a bit annoying.

For Layout's of website in general, that is good for seen, but something budge me about this. Are the position and layout were looked like this? Somehow, like the placing of the option were bit awkward in someway. Somehow, we could see that view were needed for user to put a bit longer time to understand how to operate. I hope in the future there will be some improvement regard of this point, at last, even the dummies could view as "users friendly".

And last, I hope there will be some captions / subtitles that's mentioned about some action that were done (SFX being subbed). For example like "inhales", "walking sound", "sigh", and ect. But well, not every subtitle must had those in their subtitle. At last, there will be 2 variants of subtitles that viewer could choose, the normal one, or the one with SFX's subtitles.
