The cat should have simply used his magic to make a giant rock float or create a giant block of ice by freezing water drawn from a nearby well above the idi*t.
Then stop using the magic and let that rock or ice block fall down onto that guy.
As the attack itself would be real stone or real ice his st*pid ring would not have any affect on it and he would be crushed to a cripple at least.

Imagine breaker can also stop esper skills and any science by product of said esper skills.
Also in its final form Imagine breaker can break reality like it is imaginary.

Imagine breaker aside that ring had to have some set limits of cancellation and since the cat is only a low leveled skill it was cancelled easily.

@mage_goo unless the anime differs from the LN, it even has the ability to remove momentum, and by extension kinetic energy, from anything that it touches, as long as it has something supernatural in its creation. I'm pretty sure at a few points something that wasn't formed by magic yet was launched by magic had all momentum removed via ol righty

Either that or touma ignores newtons third law and is unbelievably swole

@forecast presumably the whole deal with the ring was that it stopped elemental magic, yet didn't stopped nonelemental magic. which doesn't make much sense, but since a lot of stuff does it i guess thats the case

That's strange, since aether here refers to the air/wind element. If I try to make sense of it, I would say that magic involves either some specific energy or construction of energy that the ring breaks down. So, something like the howl racial ability would bypass the formula or construct that's used with magic or use a different energy source.

Since this is a duel so there is no killing involve, but that guy deserved that kick at the end(lol). Really satisfying.

@forecast @tehcoopatroopa The easiest example I can think of is that Imagine Breaker can't negate wound and damage caused by magic/esper skill, like his memory nor his wound that cause him to be semi-permanent residence of a certain hospital room.
Then there's the fight with Accelerator where he can't do anything about the momentum of all that rails falling toward him nor the debris launched by Accel stepping down the ground.

Block of ice created with magic would just disappear with imagine breaker, sure, since it's most likely would return to water, but giant chunk of rock lifted from the ground won't.

Also, I haven't read the last couple volume of novel, but if you're referring to the reality that Othinus tinker with destroyed by Imagine Breaker, that's exactly because the reality itself at that point is a product of magic, no?

@mage_goo are you forgetting that touma destroyed the solid blade misaka created through her esper skills during their duel and he also destroyed obsidian blade when fighting that stalker unabara. if its anything magical or esper related he can nullify it.
