So he…nerfed himself…on purpose. I’ve seen it done before but this is just, odd. We get that he’s a battle junky from how many times they’ve mentioned it, even though he has a more unassuming personality, but man, he can’t just hold himself back while being at a massive level? I get that it’s a plot device but, well, we’ll see how this goes.

Basically he's grown into a battle maniac. He started as an aloof (I'm just doing this for fun) type character, but as he met more and more people in the dungeons he's grown into a different MC.

Soo... did the old man purposely block the attack using his hilt?
What? so that he could like hook Sakura's sword and make him spin?

I'm sorry...
but...
no

The most boring way for characters to face adversity.

It feels meaningless if the limits are self imposed and not for some kind of thoughout training. And to illustrate my point, do any of the other fighters forfeit the use of their skills? If he wanted to test himself as a level 99, why is he using that sword that alters how he can use skills? It just feels pointless.

I also didn't like that his level consuming skill ate all his levels in just one relatively short fight (meaning that unless he can control how quickly it burns levels, it's a useless skill only meant to rig the skill acquiring system).
