My God!!!!!!!
3 gatsu no lion never fails to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
These Rei and Hina chapters have been a joy these past few months, Hina and Rei figuring things out together was so sweet.

Seeing Rei being able to express himself, just emoting as much as he does, tugs at my heartstrings in the happiest way :')

If I can remember correctly, wasn't the "ticket" that takes him anywhere the "shogi train ticket" metaphor? If it's melting and disappearing from his hands, and he no longer wants to "go," is this hinting at Rei moving away from shogi?? I know there's been stuff discussing the possibility before (Hayashida saying Rei has never said he wants to become a grandmaster/etc.) that hasn't led one way or the other, but I can't tell if the story is wrapping up or if we're just leading into a new arc of "Rei Figuring Out What He Wants To Do With His Life."

Ah, it took a bit to click that the "ticket" Rei was referring to was the ticket he used as a kid that let him play shogi matches and escape the brutal things in life that were constantly haunting him (and subsequently the ticket that let him board the metaphorical shogi train that appears to be symbolic of him being a professional now).

I don't believe he's about to give up Shogi. For Rei, Shogi was always an escape. But he no longer needs an escape from reality because he's found his happiness and a home where he belongs to. He no longer needs a ticket that can take him anywhere but here.

Rei called Hina his weakness because he could no longer pour his entire life into Shogi like he did before because now he wants to pour all his efforts into his newfound happiness. But he noted, shockingly so, in the last chapter that his 'weakness' was begging him to not let his efforts in shogi go to waste. Rei giving up Shogi would clearly go against what Hina wants. I think what we're going to be seeing from here on is Rei discovering that Shogi isn't just going to be the means by which he can support his life with Hina from here on, but that it is becoming a blessing to him rather than the curse he assumed it to be since we do see moments (such as his exhibition match with Souya) where he is truly passionate about the game.

Tbh I don’t want rei to quit shogi, he said before it was the only thing he had in life but now that’s definitely not true.

Instead of him feeling forced to play shogi like before I hope he actually chooses to continue and truly begins to enjoy playing.

So then he can find joy from being better and also have a family to cheer him on as he also encourages them and stuff

@JKTV I think that's the direction this is heading hopefully, he even said he'd be able to support them due to his shogi earnings

@J_the_Man I hope it plays out something like that, that would be a very nice way for the story to end. I want to see Rei in the place his dad always dreamed to be, and be happy to be there ^^
