Well, Narita, you didn't deserve your fate. But really, you don't even see women as people, just points for bragging rights. You should have never been so desperate. Ironically, those drugs offered to you would have let you survive longer.

I wonder what exactly those girls were. Were they even humans in the first place, or were they just taking human forms?

Yamamoto is scarred. The fact that he's even existing like that is terrible. How come no one is helping him?
The Yamamoto guy who appeared on this chapter was part of the Convenience Store arc and the side-story with the ugly woman seducing the medicine student so there is the possibility the author is cooking something with these side-stories.
I hope we see Kousei comeback, he did not deserve what happened to him.

That this is a side story doesn't mean it's completely unconnected to the main thread. It may be setting up plot points or identifying characters we'll see later. Or maybe not, but hold your fire for the moment.

Yeah, while he is not that likeable as a character, it's still kind of sad seeing how he ended up like that.

Well, those guys kinda deserved that.

Yeah, it's weird to say the winner would be paying the losers. Why even try to win if that were the case?
What they were doing is disgusting but it's a bit much to say they deserve to die for that.

I guess the message the author's trying to send is there's danger in drugs and promiscuous sex (ie contracting genital diseases)...but much as I hate drugs and misogynists, I can't help but feel like the author's just hating on college kids having a good time here.

"Beware of women in college! They'll literally eat you alive!"
Is the message I'm actually getting from this chapter lol, and that's a pretty shitty misogynistic message too.

Now that you mention it, I know he is not painting everyone on a negative light but I have ze feeling he is not a big fan of university students in general. Nearly 2/3 of the characters hate them!

I suspect it's a status thing. Particularly for people who profess to be rich while never having to actually earn anything. "I got all the p***y so you can have this measly consolation cash." Also 10,000 yen is about $70 usd (at time of writing) so while it's an uncomfortable bet, it's not significantly worse than a bad evening playing cards.

I thought it's mistranslation, it should be "The winner will get paid by everyone 10,000 yen each."

Well, they're either very dumb (Ouyou university) or very narcissic (from those other prestigious universities) so you're not wrong...

You say this, after reading a guy saying such choice dialogue like:
"Anyway, we're talking about girls from a dumb university. As long as we ask them out, they'll open their legs, even by the roadside."
"They have quite a lot of girls here for a dumb university. Kukuku... I can't wait to start the hunt of 100 holes!!"
"...Which is the reason why they're great as food for us..."
"My feet are meant for trampling those at the bottom!!"

Man and his goons treated a campus event like a pussy buffet and were getting ready to metaphorically devour some women after playing with their hearts, and if that's "college kids having a good time" then you've lived a God-damned porno, you hedonist. Getting literally eaten alive in retaliation is Buddhit karma, and you would understand, if not expect that, if you knew anything about Asian horror. Hell, if you knew about Korea, you'd know that some women wish this would happen unironically.

Woah woah, chill with the aggression!

I agree that the men this chapter focused on were assholes, as I said noted in my initial post. You assumed I meant them when I said "college kids having a good time" but I meant the whole manga in general! The author does not appear to take kindly to many "normal" activities in college and portrays the people who participate in them as having horrible things happen to them. Many of these activities I would call bad, like the debauchery in this chapter, and in others skipping class, prostitution, and rape, but the author also hates on things like working a side gig at a local mart, and he doesn't seem to go out of his way to show any good college events, like normal sexual relationships or normal parties.

Now, as to your point about Asian horror, indeed I don't know much about it. Unfortunately, when you choose to intermix personal attacks with an explanation, the info becomes very hard to accept.
But I love to learn, so I'm always grateful when someone more informed than me takes the time to explain something I didn't know or understand. So thank you for telling me.

@CyanHide I hope the next time you read an inflammatory comment, you are inspired to respond with kindness and understanding. You have the right spirit to do good in the world! Just keep in mind most of us aren't bad people, we're simply human and we make mistakes.

You have my sincere apologies, somehow reading that rubbed me the wrong way on top of being misunderstood. I appreciate you responding with a cooler head.

No prob, apology accepted.

Would you mind explaining more about the ideas in the following passage? Particularly the last bit about Korean women's wishes, I haven't heard of that before.

There is a lot of folklore, some Buddhist in nature, where much suffering is incurred because of one's interaction with women. I've heard people argue that some of them are misogynistic in nature; based on what I do know, those stories just detail spiritual downfalls caused by bodily desires, or like my personal favorite, the reprisal received from mistreating women a la leading them on like the Monk Anchin did with Kiyohime (as opposed to properly rejecting her to continue his journey).

Now, as for Korea, It's a really wild rabbit hole researching about users of a forum called Megalia, which was eventually disbanded and had it's more extreme users form a new site called WOMAD. You've seen those vids of ordinary western Feminists or SJWs that circulated pre-2015? They're leagues worse since they're not satisfied with merely being a nuisance. There's a screencap of how a member bragged about drugging and raping a boy staying at a hotel she worked at on a blogpost, and there was much speculation on their ties to the 2016 political scandal involving their president. I could dig up a link archiving much of that info later if you want, but this is the least you should know regarding that. Beyond that, I'd say things have "calmed down" since the last thing I heard about Korean feminists was them fighting with Korean weebs online over gacha skins, but I still worry.

Hot damn that's wild. Thanks for the info!
Btw do you have a favorite adaptation or translation of Anchin/Kiyohime?
