I really flip flop on whether MC is actually not that strong or if he's strong but is incompetent, as is usually the case with JP web novel MCs, so he can only use his powers with 10% effectiveness. Doesn't he know water or wind magic? Seems like it would have been more efficient to incapacitate the slavers from a distance with magic as he was moving closer instead of hoping he made it there before they harmed the civilian.

Depends on the classes he is training up. MC tends to switch things around frequently and even more so now that he has gained the random job skill.

Nah... MC and waifus are constantly put in situations where the "violence" solution is a given, but they are never, ever allowed to kill, or even seriously wound their opponents, however vile they are. Because "reasons".

Take the fight with the slavers... Perfect ambush, but he only disarms where he should have dis*armed* the leader.
Then a lot of talk-no-jutsu, with the usual Fleeing of the Adversary.
Which is then "settled" by Waifu X by running them into a lethal environmental hazard. So neither the MC nor the waifu have technically killed anyone.. No blood on their hands, etc...

Well, at least the MC intended to kill them and not just let them run away to enslave others another day. Given he was able to snipe the sea dragon and behead it with a wind spell, there's no reason he couldn't have done the same. But he seems to be in a melee mood of late. One downside of the "let the whale kill them" is he didn't get XP for their deaths.
