He is indeed from another world, and has been in this one for 5 years. He's desperately trying to get back because his compatriots in his original world are under attack when he gets thrown into the other world. He meets one of his old friends who tell him that not much time has passed on their world since he left. I only read the WN to the end of that arc(Ch 100), but his reason for being brought over still hasn't been explained.
