I do want to take a moment to just say what a weird release model. You have to download an app that only works on phones (specifically Android or iOS) to be able to read the chapters officially. And I know this isn't unique to this series or to manga specifically. I know this is mildly common. And I've seen explanations for why (mostly user metrics and advertising).

But such a weird-ass method when they run a website and could also let you read the chapters there, which they do, just for only chapter 1.

Another love interest. She seems nice but chaper 30 and 31 are not a good omen. She has her own issues and going on a date with Kaede is not the path a sane adult should take
is there any chance it's gonna work for them?

As of the most recent chapters, no.

At one point, Kaede is getting off of work after finishing his shift. A friend of the cafe owner comes into the store and starts chatting with the owner, Rio. The friend notices Kaede as an employee and jokes that Rio is in a relationship with him. Rio states that she is not and that she doesn't think a relationship with a person with such a large age gap would be appropriate unless there's an immense amount of love.

Later on, Kaede does confess to Rio. Rio plays it off as him meaning he likes her as his boss, and they push the issue aside. Rio does, in fact, know he meant romantically, but that was just her way of avoiding the situation.

We later see Rio has had sex with a man around her age, and she talks with him a little about how her employee, Kaede, has a crush on her. She hopes that they can just move past his confession like it never happened because she likes him as an employee.

Not long after, Kaede brings up the topic and says he meant it romantically. Rio replies that he doesn't even really know her that well and that he doesn't really love her.

That's basically where we are left off.

I don't think so, the latest japanese raws show her nude with another man post-sex, and in the thumbnail preview of the upcoming chap 31, she is shown smiling maliciously with black text bubbles, while Kaede is crying

Hol up

So does Rio in fact go on a date with Kaede as another spoiler noted? It feel like she has no reason or desire to (she shouldn’t) from what you’re saying, even if it’s a pity date to humor him. Unless every adult woman in this story is secretly boy hungry, I don’t see a motive.

I've personally read up to chapter 28, and I can definitively say no, that never happens.

My writings for anything after are just based on what one other person wrote, DrMono, and that person never indicated anything like that.

My guess is that whoever said Rio and Kaede go on a date was just trolling, but I can't give a definite answer since I haven't personally seen beyond chapter 28.

She does actually go on a date with him, since it's behind a paywall and basing this only on small crop pics from people who did see it. Lets just say, it goes exactly like you think it would. People who are seriously hoping/thinking this age gap relationship was going to happen in this manga is silly. Reading up to chapter 28, not sure if I'm liking the direction despite knowing what the author is trying to do.

Wow, that is a really weird direction. As you said, I can kind of see where the author intends to go by doing that, but that's just a weird turn.

Like, Kaede feeling romantically attracted to Rio in the first place was a bit weird to begin with. Then I'm guessing that Rio takes Kaede on a date to show that he doesn't really know her and that what he's feeling is not truly love. But that's still weird.

I'm beginning to suspect the author is not as deep as they appear, and they just want to have Kaede suffer just for the hell of it.

Already 3 times he has been hurt, it's becoming suspicious now from the author's part to keep doing this back to back

I hope future chaps prove me wrong.

I agree that the author probably isn't as deep as we all want. I don't think the author is just going for [cheap] drama and suffering just to push it along.

I think this is just showing the "limitations" (I don't know a better word for this) and their particular writing style. At least, I hope it doesn't go the cheap, dramatic route and sticks to more realistic things.

Actually, I have to somewhat backtrack on that. The fact that there's this veritable "rainbow" of different types of people experiencing issues does make me think the author is kind of going for an unrealistic route.

Asahi possibly having romantic feelings for Kaede is just an unlikelihood added on.

Sahara being asexual is just an unlikelihood added on.

Individually, each thing isn't overall unlikely. It's the fact that they all get piled on top of Kaede, the rape victim, that it feels a bit forced.

I'll give it a chance and hope things brighten up for him later on.

If another new thing randomly pops up again to mess with our poor boy, then I will stop trusting that this author is doing this story with good intentions.
