I have real trouble following the action in the chapter. Was it the executive who disguised as D or someone else?

Bro, it's clear that Aizome turned into Executive because excessive use of Dragon Replica. Check again on page 13 until 14

It was loose on the idea but that confirms it more that the invaders are all human experiments, D was probably a punk that got snatched up and turned into what he is now.

Let's reminisce some things for people that haven't binged this series in a while:

  • It is confirmed that Yellow created both Invaders and Divine Tools somehow.
  • It is confirmed that Divine Relics are made with the sacrifice of Dragon Maidens (and usage of clones derives in weaker Divine Tools).
  • It is confirmed that humans can transform into invaders, but the prototype made by the IRA turn them into aberrations. The refined version allowed them to convert half into Executives, with a second dosis allowing the full conversion.
  • Executives "reborn" this way somehow retain all their memories and personalities. Also somehow this process can be reversed and turned back into normal humans if the will to do so is strong enough. Also also, for the case of Angel, she retained her executive powers despite regaining control.
  • Most serums were made with information from existing Executives. However there was one made entirely from scratch that allowed for the "revival" of Death Messiah, a never before seen Executive, without any memories or personality overwriting his host, since it didn't exist before at all.
  • Dragon Keepers need to undergo some kind of body operation to make them able to withstand the powers from the Dragon Relic.
  • Red Dragon Keeper was able to attain a "tier 2" level of power, or awakening, albeit temporarily.

Now this allows to theorise the following:

  • Perhaps the operation for Dragon Keepers is similar in nature to the process for Executive transformation. One "dosis" allow for half the power, two allow for full power usage in both cases.
  • Aizome might have undergone the operations in order to gain power to exact her revenge on D. The sole reason she didn't do it before was because Red Keeper didn't want a midget Blue Keeper, but Yellow Keeper could have done it now for some part of his plans. It is pretty much clear that he knew what was going to happen to some degree, and you can see that he's already in motion long before the executive warning went off.
  • Perhaps the difference between the processes is simply due to Yellow being the original creator, and the IRA just trying to copy his work. The IRA would always make "known" Executives, while Yellow would always make "new" ones.
  • I'm pretty sure Yellow knew that Aizome could become so twisted that she would finish the transformation, but he didn't expect it to happen so soon, or in this situation. He most certainly didn't want the current development to happen right now, but he doesn't seem surprised by it at all.
  • Since Aizome transformed into something "new", it's possible that she retains her memory and personality, like Death Messiah. In which case she would probably go crazy at the realization. It is also possible that she just becomes a blank slate driven by instinct, unable to tell enemies from allies. In any case, it's leaning heavily into her becoming a huge problem for everyone involved.
  • Maybe, just maybe, there's a small chance she could reverse the process and become human again. But I doubt it.

Even if she still have access to her old human form, she is no longer human anymore.
Pretty sure some ranger won't consider formerly human invader as human anymore, so her life as human pretty much over now.
