They are between 15-16 (since they are now in highschool) she has judging from the previous part of the chapter spent either the entire middle school and maybe even the Primary school years teasing him and not allowing him to have friends. If you as a person by 16 can't tell that what your doing is insanely wrong then I dunno what to tell you.

While true the issue is when people get depressed so to go that ability. We have a bridge in my city that many have jumped from, the several survivors have all said the same thing. "About halfway down I suddenly why I jumped" or similar.
