The old heads at the office really don't want a female boss that's younger than them, I'd probably have the same feelings but would rather quit than make snide remarks when she's mentioned.

Normally I would agree, but this case is a bit of an exeption.
Rena isnt some diversity hire or some incompetent bumblefuck. The company isnt publicly traded or anything either, its private and fully owned by the family in charge. After the old president's death, legally and morally it goes to the oldest son/daughter.
More importantly, she's been busting her ass to live up to her father, desperately trying to hold together what he left behind and keep the company successful in his memory and honor.
Honestly, i probably wouldve found her very offputting and considered my options on leaving; but thanks to ishizumi batting so hard for her and other coworkers toughing it out i would've reconsidered. By now its getting pretty clear she is just having a really tough time, but is genuine at heart
