Yeah... Everything somewhat feels meaningless until the actual reveal. Like don't get me wrong, it's nice that she's bonding with "Izumi", but we know it won't progress anywhere beyond a love confession which won't mean much since she still doesn't know. And it's nice that she's getting along with "Ishizumi" since it gives some moments of encouragement and information about her Dad and such; but we know she won't develop anything more than maybe respectable admiration for "Ishizumi", since her heart is set on "Izumi".

The alcohol just makes it easier to maintain the status quo, since she drinks enough to forget any important details about "Izumi", therefore repeating the cycle.
