I don't get it. Why didn't they just take the table out in between the 2 single beds and line them up side by side? It's perfectly fine to combine 2 single beds together to make a double bed. You get better sleep that way, since each single bed is isolated from vibration from other bed.

Also, I still don't know why he just agreed to quit the party without any resistance when asked to.

Cause if you're not careful you end up in the awkward position of having someone fall in the middle, and ruining the mood, and the last thing youre doing when in the deep of things is being careful.

The bed frames are about as thick as 2×4s. So if you push the two beds together there will not only be a 4in. gap between the two mattresses, there is also a hard wooden frame right where they would be cuddling once the destraction is out of the house. Also there is no reason to have seprate beds if you're just going to push them together anyway.

As for the leaving part, it was mostly because Red thought his sister and Aries were a couple. Gideon had been falling behind the other members of the hero's party for a while and was already feeling like he was holding them back. Aries prayed upon that insecurity and kepted harping on it till Red finally gave in. Him seeing Aries hugging his sister shortly after was the final straw that broke his will to resist and left.

At first they stopped because the are both very experienced fighters living in a fantasy world. Ignoring sounds like that even in their own homes could mean a monster or an assassin would have a chance to sneak up on them. Second they didnt continue after identifying the noise as the kid because it would be even more awkward the next day. Granted the first reason conflicts with the second, but when you throw in Japanese often ridged morals on decency, you get scenes like this.

@Miserys_End a simple solution is to place the mattress across the frame, not in between the frame. Then there is no gap. There is a good reason to have separate beds because of the vibration isolation. You won't wake up in the middle of the night when the other person is turning around in bed.

Doesnt work like you're thinking it does. Think of the frame as a open topped box that the matress fits into. Even if you pad the gap where the frames are joined, there will still be a raised hard line right where you want to lay down. Shaving down the frame doesnt work either because then the two matresses now has room to slide, or the two bed frames will instead as the person or people slide into the gap. This has happened to us a couple of times when the girlfriend and I were staying in different hotels and resorts. We even tied the frames together only to have the boxsprings to slide apart and leave a foot sized gap for us to fall into.

tl:dr
Unless the bed(s) are purpose built to fit side by side, you're better off just buying one that is.
