In the past, ‘pre industrialization’, there was very few merit keeping rank and file enemy soldier. Since they don’t have surplus food to spare to keep them alive, kill them and loot their corpse was more profitable back then.

Olivia could casually stroll into the enemy castle and slay the king single handedly.

Sometimes, her innocent smile while splattered in blood reminds me of the MC from Fukushuu o Koinegau.

Historically, prisoners of war are usually just killed off if they provide no merit right? Sure if you're royalty or high ranking officer you'll be ransomed but commoners? Just dead and they release some bullshit excuse if they have to explain(assuming they explain).

Wait, that's a classic crossbow, it should be weaker, not stronger than a normal arrow.
There are no 17th-18th century italians to make the proper crossbow here.

Interesting... Based on the comments about how these types of soldiers historically would be killed off instead of captured, the reason their surrender was even accepted in the first place is probably due to how if the special task force, who were the only ones on the scene at the time, didn't they would now have to fight the 400 soldiers and would have sustained heavy casualties themselves as they are a relatively small unit. Accepting the surrender of these otherwise worthless prisoners would be a situation that probably didn't come up a lot, having 400 some commoners all surrender at once isn't a feat that can be accomplished without someone like Olivia to convince them that a guaranteed and unstoppable force of death and carnage is slowly chasing them.

@f0xhunt they are still weaker than warbows and Longbows, which are the bows commonly used on battlefields. Which is where my comment is coming from.

Ransom
Most prisoners were taken by the person who captured them with there rarely being a "state" effort. Each soldier would then on their own or through specialists demand a ransom from the family of the soldier. Some countries ofc had different methods and even forms of slavery - the most common fate of a pow - but in Christian world, no Christian could own another Christian, atleast on principle. This practice at times led to chaos, as people began to race to capture rich/noble looking soldiers and officers, as their families would be able to pay a lot more than the common peasant.
Other common faith was conscripted, the captured soldiers could just switch sides and fight for the winner. This was common during the so called mercenary era, tho barely practiced in Northern and Eastern Europe.

She caught an arbalest arrow while wearing armor? Compared to a normal human she might as well be Saitama.
