It's the prosecutor's (sorry, couldn't be bothered to remember her name) attempt at wrestling power away from the Queen. Despite his achievements, it would really bring to light that the Queen entrusted a stranger, who not only (supposedly) defied orders, but also impersonated a key person of their nation directly under her orders. This would shed a negative light on the Queen, reducing her credibility and politically allowing the prosecutor to move more freely.

There's a glaring plothole here. The fact that nobody notice Doronea has been missing for several days.

You can clearly see at the start that the two "assassins" saw her leaving and going to Senator place and then last chapter we can see someone standing on the roof and thats probably one of these "assassin" going to rescue Doronea. It might be a turning point when she is rescued and it comes to light what Senators does in the dark.

This. Having her and Grey's granny swap places is way too complicated, but having them be the same person all along is not only simple, but also better plot-wise.

It will also explains Gil's answer to her question. While her actual grandson is already dead, Kai is still a great guy that lives up to Grey's reputation and accomplishments, and she should know that by now. And like the other has said, most of Albion's recent achievements is due to him anyway.

Which void she could fill with, for instance, rewritten treaties that benefit her more, citing that 'an impostor signed the treaty you agreed to' which would necessitate the re-agreement to maintain diplomatic relations.

There are many workarounds she could attempt once she gains power, but all hinge on the idea that she gains said power to begin with.
