They tend to be unbalanced. Being an adult doesn't mean you always make the best choice in your life.
A person who is 20 and another who is 30 don't always share the same mindset and idea of what a couple is and what they want to do in a relationship. You don't have the same experience in life (professional, personal, relationship, money, etc...).
And most of the time, it's the person who has more experience in life who tends to lead the couple. And it can lead to a dependent relationship.

In a flashback Momoka had, Haruto seemed to be wearing a high school uniform. He was also called a kid by Momoka back then so I'm assuming that's the case.

Momoka's affair happened when she was a working adult. Let's assume she only did 4 years of college (minimum for a BA in Japan) for the shortest possible gap.

This means Momoka's affair was when she was 23 at the earliest. If Haruto was in his third year of high school he would have been 17-18.

Thus, he has at minimum a 5 year age gap with Momoka, who is the same age as Mahoro, so a 5 year minimum gap with Mahoro.

The max gap they can have is 10 years because he has to be over 20 to drink alcohol.

Thus Haruto is 20-25 years old.

I’ve had this same line of thinking about Momoka and Haruto a ton since they started getting intimately involved in the investigation. Very much a keep your friends close but your enemies closer vibe for me.

There are prolly irl age gaps that are big tho i'd think someone that young going after someone older is naive/ curious or just a gold digger, maybe it'd work out but 'power dynamics' aside there's also life experience, idk how well a 35+ year old would tolerate an 18 year old outside of the bedroom 8D; (esp since unless you have a super consistent personality/never do much with your life choices with big decisions/risks, the person you are at 18 isn't the person you are at 30+, depending)
