The author doesn't stop dropping the afterword nukes

Also "as the story progressed", this is just chapter.
Although I like whe the author drops a comment like this because they make the story feel more real, damn... Author, are you okay?

Man I'm worried about the mangaka's social circle. I just hope things are better now.
And
At this point I'm more concerned about how apparently literally everyone in the author's life was a terrible person and the only one good person in the story was someone she had to fanfic herself totally not my ideal husbando honest so that the story was not just 98% bad stuff.
Can't help but start thinking this woman is really fucking awful at reading people. And that's putting it mildly and kindly.
And this. Now that you mentioned it, it reminded me of the mangaka character in the main series. It seems she would always stick close to people with "juicy" stories to gather material. So it might be that the author is actively looking for such people/stories.

In my experience, though, this happens more often than not. I know a few people, women and men, straight and queer, who escaped abusive relationships themselves. Gladly, I know more people who are doing just fine without major drama, even when it fails. So there is hope, I guess. And fingerprints kits, for adverse situations.

You think lesbians have it better? :pepela:
It’s pretty alright, feel like I can’t complain too much when I hear how my straight friends are fairing, dating is just hard. Finding someone interesting is just a lot harder than it is for a straight woman. Still I don’t envy them whatsoever, lots of Rei’s and Ituski’s in their dating pool.

I hope author left asap when that shit happened irl to her
I don't care who you are or who they are. If a partner destroys your stuff, leave. That's a proxy for you, and its only a matter of time before they get tired of the proxy.

hmmm all of those friends and people she knows might have just been her. Just like your classic rom-com heroine. "so, about my friend"
"Man its been a real rapid turn about on our Cuck King I wonder why..."
Author: Itsuki he's an insert for an Ex of mine
"Oh. That explains it."

I've come to find that a decent barometer for emotional intelligence and analytical ability can be found in whether a reader of stories like this one, can understand that sympathy for an antagonistic character, and condemnation for that character's actions, are not mutually exclusive perspectives.
The difference here is due to genre rules we're being shown why it wasn't Rio's fault she's a horrible person. Its not sympathy, its blame shifting.

I guess I'm ignorant of the "genre rules" you're referencing.

Hummm... Two chapters in and.... (half) Sorry, Rio, but I don't have enough empathy for you. It's just the beginning, but compared to what I had with the first story with Mahoro, here I feel practically nothing.

I think it's because I know what she's going to do and how vile she will be. Also, I can't imagine myself turning against my friends and stabbing them in their backs because I have a miserable couple life and a psycho at home.

I mean, yeah, all her unhappiness came from Itsuki and Rei is going to take advantage of it and potentially "rape her" or insist REALLY REALLY HARD to sleep with her. But... She could have chosen many ways out of it.
Firstly, talk to her friends. Really, sororities save women's lives.

The genre here isn't well rounded complex life tales, its housewife escapism. Hence Rio can't really be at fault for anything.
See also: Kyouko.

I.e. how we never get into the ethics of slavery in Isekai (the point is to show how good of a guy the MC is and/or why he has just no gosh darn choice but to build a harem) or why no one calls the cops in a RomDram, or why in RomComs the perfect 12/10 class idol secretly has a crush on the gloomy MC and shares his favorite series.

Maybe it's just me, but that just sounds like a refusal to read beyond the surface of the events of the narrative to the deeper reasons things are happening and couching that in "the genre isn't letting me interpret the story past an arbitrarily predefined level".

You're welcome to your point of view, but nothing about this tells me Rio's being made to be purely a victim with her actions in the main story requiring the reader's forgiveness. It just says "hey guess what, that shitty person had a shitty life of her own. Maybe shitty circumstances beget shitty behavior." But that's not the same thing as justification or a defense.

And, we're 2 chapters into an 11 chapter series. So events yet to be depicted may provide further illumination in favor of your stance, but as of yet I admit I'm not seeing this as anything more than context for Rio's behavior in the first story.

The existence of straight women is proof that sexuality is not a choice.

That's the craziest take to throw on a whole sexuality. So here is some statistics from the 2010 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS), this CDC report is the first of its kind to account for a respondent’s sexual orientation. State that

The lifetime prevalence of rape, physical violence and/or stalking by an intimate partner is extremely high in the lesbian, gay and bisexual community with lesbian women (43.8%), gay men (26%), bisexual women (61.1%), and bisexual men (37.3%) reporting experiencing this violence, compared to heterosexual women (35%) and heterosexual men (29%).

Lesbian women don't have it better over straight women. This trend is even worse in the 2016 to 2017 range (the 2023/24 hasn't been updated yet) with it climbing upto 51.7% for lesbian couples and 40%for heterosexual women.
Lmao wildly high abuse and cheating % for their small population, why wouldn't all women want to be lesbians?
If it was a choice I don't think many would because statistically your more likely to end up in an abusive relationship then not. Less people make that statistic more likely to happen to you.

Everyone here talking about statistics and empathy, but missing the REAL question:

Itsuki cut up the dress he bought her because she didn't wear it.
Rio cheated on him with Rei and put it on OnlyFans.
So is he also going to scissor up his penis when they get back from the party?
Discuss.

other than cheating on Rei as a way to get back at her husband and Mahoro for having a better life than she does, nothing will be her fault and it'll all be Itsuki. She was simply forced to make these terrible decisions because of everything outside of her control and she couldn't have done anything to change that, other than cheat on a different guy.

Even if she couldn't get a divorce there was simply nothing she could have done. She couldn't have just moved out, she couldn't have . no,clearly her only option was wrecking her friends marriage and then trying to turn them on each other.
because Rei's milkshake brings all the terrible friends to the yard.

Becasue that's how the genre goes. So while people need to at least somewhat on board with the genre rules, you also can't accuse people of lack of empathy when they point out the obvious plotholes, motivation flaws, and logical inconsistencies. Because much like the Isekai world just happens to be identical to the MC's favorite videogame the goal is versimilitude for the genre audience, not realism.

So don't confuse being unwilling to empathize with a character due to annoyance at genre rules with the lack of ability.

Hell therapy at this point would have done wonders for both of them. Itsuki is an unreasonable ass who apparently doesn't stock a whole refrigerator with variety of meal items to make if he comes home with people on a whim. And she think she's too smart to get caught despite eventually doing the stupid thing and putting it on onlyfans.

Honestly other than unhealthy coping mechanisms (and those don't manifest for a bit) and terrible choices in partners, there's nothing wrong with Rio except some honesty issues. And the honesty issues at chapter 2 levels aren't an issue - we just know where they lead.

Itsuki needs some therapy and help with both his emotions and accepting other people (as expected of the Author's ex)
He was hurt and saddened that Rio ignored his suggestion, but really needs some professional guidance on both learning how to express that in a healthy and productive manner, and also accepting that his viewpoint isn't the only one.

One thing you and a lot of people don’t take into account with these statistics is that the abusers are still majority men. Lesbians and especially bisexual women, have often been in heterosexual relationships, in the case of lesbians before coming out. These statistics track life time abuse faced. So it’s not that there’s more abuse in female-female couples, but that lesbians and bisexual women are more likely to have been abused by a partner and said partner was still usually a man.

There’s also some talk that lesbian and bisexual women are more open to actually report abuse as opposed to heterosexual women. Which I can definitely see being true, as the reasons women don’t report abuse (religion, children, being dependent on their spouse, etc) are less likely to be an issue in female-female couples.

I see these statistics thrown around so often (that I knew it was going to come up) without that context and it’s really disheartening.

Simply stating these statistics are based on self-reporting usually carries a lot of weight.

Especially with how historically apathetic and/or actually ineffectual law enforcement/justice systems are in actually aiding abuse victims in various countries where these statistics are recorded.

No what you don't understand is that the statistic that I took this from where LITERALLY from INTIMATE PARTNERS. So what intimate partner would a lesbian have? A woman. Now you could attend that to the bisexual women that most are based with male partners but that's not the truth for the lesbian participants. That's still doesn't help you since the problem in question was that who had more domestic issues straight women or lesbians. The answer was lesbians are more likely to experience domestic violence from their intimate partner whom would be a women.

I would have just watched him cut it up and shrugged, "suit yourself, dumbass, i didn't pay for it lol what a drama queen."

and then presumably be broken down over several months of psychological torture if i'm reading itsuki correctly.

Should've recorded that instead of sex tapes...

oof shitty. that said there are some 'demanding' couples /weddings would have a dress code otehr than "don't wear white"
i would've simply told him "the bride doesn't want us wearing dark colors" or so

Although I like whe the author drops a comment like this because they make the story feel more real, damn... Author, are you okay?

I'm assuming they're ok now if they can write about their experience and get some money back from it at least. tho pretty dark autobiographies like nagata kabi or whatever her name was and that one who had a manga loosely based on being part of a cult b/c of their parents

Other than a court order i can't imagine him or other similar ppl irl going "yeah i'm a piece of shit help me be better"
esp if they're an upper class rich person used to getting their way

Was the author not Mahora?
