They swapped again in the hospital after yui wished.
Nice ending but I can't get over Yui scrapping her wish to be a girl again, I guess her wish to save yuuta in the hospital, or even before that when she resolved to give him an ok to the confession made her alright being in his body forever.
WH why what the fuck is this
why have them swap back with some retarded pseudo scientific reason just to have fucking god himself pop them back into the others body
this is so stupid holy fuck
@cluelessleaf oh the way they say hello is what ticked you off ? not the fact that the girl was called the boyfriend ?
glad that we went through like 70 chapters of this and the most we see is them do holding hands
what the actual fuck man
The author confirmed they remained in one anothers body after the wish trough a mini comic on her twitter.
I know a bit (learning it still) of japanese and have followed some japanese forums. there is (almost) no doubt there that they are being in each others bodies still. It was already set in motion about wheter or not they switched after the plea to god. They switched again and remain in each others bodies.
Speaking of that the creator has a mini comic about the two as a couple. I believe it is chapter 65.8
On a side note: there was a play and on the forums and there is a talk about it being perhaps animated in a competition!
Apart from saying Yuuta to yuutas body there is not a single clue that they are back in their original bodies. It would also ruin all the development they have made in each others bodies and the fact that they had just accepted not switching back to their original bodies.
I think the author wanted to keep us in suspense for the anwser till the very end of the chapter; where it is basically confirmed they indeed made the third swap and will remain in each others bodies from now on. After all their personalities dont fit what we would expect them to be like were they back in their original bodies
15 clues I found:
1. They have accepted their new identity and thus feel it’s no longer needed to call each other by their birth names.
2. Kazuma is disgusted by the idea of being interested in ”Yui” this is similar to his reaction when strangers thought he and “yui(yuuta in yui’s body)”were a couple in the middle of the story.
3. Their friends havent noticed anything strange About their behaviour otherwise this would have been stated when the girl was talking to Kazuma about him being interested in “Yui” and that they share a special bond so in short she thinks
Kazuma and Yui are still swapped. After all she always hung around Yui so she would have definitely noticed if anything changed! Same for the others.
4. The way Yui and Yuuta greet each other is the exact same way they did the middle of the story. Yuuta(in yuis body) saying Yuuta!.The same usual type of smiles we saw them make. As well as the same type of “good morning”for yui in yuutas body and “morning”for yuuta in yuis body.
Note: this might be a translation preference; since there is no difference in what they seem to say in japanese?
5. The tsun reaction this ”Yui” gives and the vampire tooth that is practically exclusive to yuutas personality. He had the fangs more than once as a boy before changing bodies and it was seen quite a few times troughout the story and exclusive to yuuta in Yuis body. the original Yui only shows this tooth once troughout the entire story and that was when she was genuinely pissed off and still a child
6. Once again the way they smile. It is more restrained with yuis personality than it is with yuutas. And here Yui always shows the bigger smile.
7. Yuuta acting like the more mature one of the two overall and in character to how yuis personality is like. Same for yui acting like yuutas personality in being more excited.
8. Yuuta has the personality to be tsundere at times. something yui does not have. she is more direct and blunt when she gets angry. The “Yui” we see here has a very tsundere moment with the “idiot, idiot!” (Note: they do call each others idiots a lot )
9. “You are not being an honest boyfriend” spoken by Yuuta. Pretty much confirming we know its Yuuta in Yui’s body. And in the story Yui’s personality has been shown to say the type of things like this. Messing with Yuuta about him having to be more feminine is one of the things she does.
10. The colored end page!!!! Look at Yuuta and Yui! the peace sign and smile Yui makes has been shown in their pre swap child album by yuutas body; and I recall also a few times by yui during the swap. This is a further confirmation that they are still swapped in the end.
11. The 1,5 year time skip coincides with them having spent more time in each others bodies than their own birthvessels. And is symbolic. In other words they are now the owner of each others bodies more than they ever were of their own.
12. In the epilogue there are a few more hints but for spoilers I wont post them here
15. Their outfits and looks havent changed! Pretty sure Yui would like a more feminine appearance after all and would love long hair as seen earlier. The yui we see here has short hair and still wears a masculine tie As opposed to a ribbon which yui would have wanted
the original webcomic ending they all say it is yuuta in yuis body married to someone (presumably but not confirmed tachibana. And that yui could not cope with her gender dissonance and suicided
Thought I'd feel more strongly about the ending but I'm just kinda...eh. Even though it's not the ending I hoped for. Maybe cuz I waited so long to finish.
I think the ending could have been better if the accident never happened nor, that they never found a reason why they swapped in the first place.
This chapter could still been the same finale chapter, nothing would need to be changed here.
The only thing the last chapters did was shock the reader a bit. While most readers probably would agree with me that it was kinda uneccesery. It just made you want to turn the pages slighty faster. But still leaving a feeling it could have a sweeter ending during the later chapters instead of what we got.
Unless the manga should end with them back in their own bodies. Then the accident would make sense, but becuase that is not what we got, it really really did feel it didn't belong there. unless, the reader itself wants to make the last chapter the actual last chapter, without "god's light" doing anything.
All of you guys' assumptions about them finally accepting the change has one huge problem: If they had really accepted the change, "Yuuta" wouldn't address "Yui" as "boyfriend", because it means that in their mind, they still think that they're swapped.
It doesn't make sense that they only partially accepted the change (by mentioning the body's names), but still addresses each other with swapped boyfriend/girlfriend nouns.
So I thought something was off, and when it was confirmed that the author's extras were not post truck-kun, I tried searching the comments section for answers, and found this.
In russian version this line was translated from Japanese as "You're not honest with your boyfriend"
...
This.
This actually made much more sense.
1. Kazuma moved on from Yui, that's why he laughes and sweats when asked about that (and said "I'm saved" when the topic moved away from that).
2. Koizumi still thought that Yui switched bodies with Kazuma.
3. Yuuta and Yui went to different colleges, just like what they wanted if they were swapped back (they said they'll stick together if they're still swapped).
4. Yuuta and Yui misses their "swapped" parents.
5. Yui was the one who got scared when a car passes (since she was the one who got hit by the truck).
6. Of course, Yuuta and Yui calling each other by their correct, un-swapped names, and Yuuta addressing himself as boyfriend.
And finally, the nail in the coffin, from chapter 65 (epilogue):
7.
Yuuta suggested that they eat at Tachibana's shop when one of their kids wanted ramen.
This final one is huge, because apart from a few encounters, Yui almost didn't know anything about Tachibana.
All this points out to them being in their original bodies at the end.
Thank goodness that's the case.
I can sleep peacefully tonight.
Yay for a fulfilling ending (even tho it feels kinda rushed).
@Felgon in what way is them being in their original bodies the happy ending
going back to their original bodies after all this time would be even worse than their first swap at the beginning
and the noodle thing isnt exactly a nail in the coffin
they have been together for a while so they definitely went there multiple times
the guy is probably a friend of the family now
and we dont even know who said that because the bubble isnt pointing at anybody
I know this is a few months old now, but what were these last few chapters? I wanted them to stay in each other’s bodies but for them to swap back to normal and then idk what really happened tbh. Apparently they are gonna stay in each other’s bodies but this doesn’t feel like they are accepting it (like how I thought it was gonna go). It just kinda felt rushed I guess.
I've come back here for the fourth time already and have just recently realized that I overlooked something about the ending. I used to think that they reverted back to their original bodies but after noticing that Yui's wish is implied to be granted, I think it is not the case lol.
Wait, they actually switched back AGAIN ? There was no implication that Yuuta is going to die if they don't, and it was clear through all the previous chapters that despite the body change, Yuuta was still thinking as a guy, and Yui is still thinking as a girl, so what's the fucking point of them not returning to their bodies ? I gotta say i'm pretty disappointed, but it could've been worse so whatever, i'm just glad that they're together and happy.
Can i just say im really glad ive jumped from ch 9 to 61? If i had read the whole thing to see this ending i would had been really frustrated.
Things up to ch 9 were awfully superficial and i just felt like it would be a messy ride. But the inexplicable change before the accident was a weird twist. Would work just fine if he actually save her with her body and after in the hospital she made the same wish. Either way ending with the bodies still swapped really makes for an odd conclusion more over when they just started dating.
@Nimroth no, the worst possible ending is the actual ending in the webnovel that everyone feared would be reenacted in manga form. this might be a bit kitschy but I prefer it over the original Bad End.
If they remained switched until now and this is the happy ending then this is good for the audience... so I am okay with it being a happy ending for a fictional story.
But this is only for the diehard science fans: nurture doesn't shape a person. The story is only fictional and you should not use this story as a bulletpoint in any opinion of gender dysphoria or transgender studies.
This kind of scenario happened in real life with a set of twins and the sad outcome shows that nurture doesn't create a person.
