Bishamonten is not japanese god, he is a buddhism god. And no buddha is not at the top, he is not even considered god in many buddhism's region. Chinese is probally the biggest region worshiping him. He start out as a human who reach enlightenment so he is at best a demi-god, so the fact other full god disrespected him is normal

I knew about Bishamonten being a buddhic deity, but I thought that since Buddha is sort of the origin of Buddhism, he'd be the first and other gods were derived from him... I've also read the story of Siddharta Gautama, the one rumored to have become Buddha.

the 7 lucky gods (including Ebisu and Bishamonten) aren't quite in the same pantheon as buddha so buddha isn't their superior. 7 lucky gods are officially considered japanese mythology (some of them were adapted from other mythologies)
Unlike them, Buddha is more prominent in indian & chinese buddhism.

also, ebisu is clearly just a super overconfident and cocky punk in this manga so his insults don't mean much.

this manga will probably get to why the 7 lucky gods disrespect Buddha when buddha fights and we get Buddha's backstory.

My guess is the similar to trieuvuhoang : Buddha is an ascended (non-natural) god in this manga , and there were probably pantheon / god duty conflicts when Buddha ascended.
Some of the seven lucky gods originating from chinese buddhism suggests that possible conflict with buddha is why they changed to from china to japan.

Still not really getting 'Buddha's portrayal; seems quick to pick a fight & prideful rather than someone who has ascended beyond worldly trappings and emotions. Artist license I suppose.

That's a good point that they probably excluded huge swathes of gods, whether they originated from a human directly or indirectly. All the lower animalistic gods would probably all be pretty split on humans I imagine too.

ugh that god that poses in weird ways is so lame. this whole chapter was some terrible filler. the humans are just as annoying but the whole god's schtick is vomit-inducing. anything outside of the fights has been terrible.
