Because its no longer a copyright grey area. Thats the whole point of this thread.

Thats what a DMCA takedown IS! 🤣

What you guys are actually arguing for is this:

"The Mangadex site staff should go to jail or get sued into bankruptcy court so that we can continue to read free manga! ((until the entire site also gets wiped due to the aforementioned jail and/or bankruptcy))"

Im sure Rich wants to go to jail so you can keep reading free manga. Because you reading free manga is whats REALLY important here, right? Not the wellbeing of the site or the staff who maintains it, but your own personal desires. 😅

You guys are too unreal. You all sound like a bunch of self-indulgent weenies with this stuff. Grow up!
I don't expect them to go to jail, I DO expect them to stand behind the community they created. they knew what was coming and said nothing, did nothing, just let it happen and then went radio silent. why was the site hosted in a place that has to comply with the DMCA, why wasn't there a plan place for when it happened, why does it feel like something else is going on behind the scenes and we're not getting the whole picture.

You're mad because the site is hosted in a place that has to comply with DMCA?

Well DMCA is the American side of the copyright issue. But the real deal, is that ALMOST every nation in the world recognizes copyright laws.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berne_Convention

181 out of 195 recognized nations in the world have signed the Berne Convention. So where do you think they are going to host it? Ethiopia? Somalia?

Either way, it wouldn't matter since they can still figure out where the people running the site are located. Unless they live in Ethiopia too then it will be the same situation. And also, the site is crowd funded by us, the users, so they could target our payment services as an additional option.

You are living in a straight up fantasy world dude.

Lastly, they told us all as soon they knew what they were going to do. It just happened to coincide with the time they implemented the takedowns. But even if that wasn't the case, theres no obligation for them to tell you in advance. And honestly, when dealing with SERIOUS LEGAL ACTIONS, you generally want to limit the amount of information you put out publicly since the other side can read your website too. Why telegraph your moves in advance when you might wind up in court?

Very funny post tho. If you think you are sooo smart then go build your perfect piracy site yourself. If you think you can? I mean lets be honest, such a thing doesn't exist, except maybe on the Dark Web.

Until then,
Quit bitching. ❤️

why was the site hosted in a place that has to comply with the DMCA
This describes all of the original generic top-level domains (and a bunch of the newer ones, too) - US registrars, US rules. If an organization refuses to comply, the DNS entry can be pulled as a final resort.

And DMCA compliance step 1 is 'take it down'. Not 'tell everyone you got a DMCA so they can download the offending content before you take it down'. If you do that second thing, you're no longer in compliance and are opening yourself up to legal action.

It does feel like that person is an alt of someone from the staff/related to the staff and he's attacking any question or critique.
Seems like the 'behind the scenes' is mostly about 'saving the website', not really about caring about the 'community', but the question is what for really, when the site is not even trying to be a scanlation site anymore with all of the changes and new rules, and the staff has a whole another site for the legal uploads, so there's really no point in fighting for mangadex anymore, especially when he comments how much they're afraid of going to jail. Which is weird, because they're all just volunteers doing it as a hobby, so they can just... stop if it's too dangerous? But instead they double down and try to do somehow of a legalization of mangadex's operation?

I wonder mention a specific staff member? They're friends or perhaps an alt of him/someone from staff?

Did you forget half of your sentence or something?

I mean, I'm not. But if I was I wouldn't have an issue with admitting it. I would just say so. It certainly wouldn't matter. 😂

I like how thats where you went with all this.

They can just stop? Because they are volunteers? What does being a volunteer have to do with it? You dont even make any sense. Thats not how lawsuits work. No wonder all your arguments are bad and your logic is circular.

But seriously, I'm not attacking any of you. I just got tired of seeing you guys whine and cry and insult the staff here on the forums over the takedown issue for 6 weeks straight. So I decided to help educate you guys.

I'm an educator now, ok? Only on Mangadex tho. You guys should be paying me for all the life lessons I'm giving you. But you're not (except in laughs). I guess that makes me a volunteer too! 😊

You should stop being so ungrateful. Because you are correct...the staff ARE volunteers. And all the self-entitled whining going on has gotten super stale. Go take a bath...

we done yet? can we go back to reading manga and shitposting?

Most of the ones I was reading are gone, not every chapter but a good part. Which means I can wake up tomorrow and the rest will be gone too. Most people are fleeing to other sites, some of them with suspicious ads or even Reddit. What's the point of continuing to ask for money to keep the site going like this?

Just set up a paywall and start buying rights to put up as many mangas as they can pay the rights with that. Taking the risk of making a donation to the site only to wake up and find half the manga gone makes no sense.
