you'd think a hero would be able to afford some kinda tutor or help, i understand not like, going to this world's equivalent of 'university' but some basic reading comprehension seems like it could be useful if he comes across dangerous texts/signs/etc, if not learning in his spare time so he doesn't get looked down on

Lumir basically means light, it's very close to luminous and she conveniently showed up to teach our protag how to possess a human body right before the body of an evil saint called jelly aspic gets dumped in the forest. It would be more contrived for this not to be some long-winded plot by the goddess

The only reason Slime-chan!Jelly knows how to read is because of OG!Jelly's memories but given how much she struggled with the paperwork she might not know how enough to be a teacher versus having a maid do it (esp if she wants to cut down on time together) tho be funny if they got lost together and there were some signs that's like "Danger/unsafe"/etc and Jelly was in some fog/separated for a bit and went down a diff path or so but idk if they'll make his inability to read that huge of a plot point
