@Terithian I'd have said "perhaps they don't want to kill humans" but then again, they sort of one shot a swarm of cultists and then watched as their pet slime ate the remaining one without really batting an eye over it so, fuck if I know. I guess even random bandits get plot armor sometimes.

They fought while prepared and even so, they failed.

Assuming they are truly just bandits It was smart to just save the victims and get out. Less of a risk, much less troublesome.
Also, I think the demon strong point was his numbers, not his strength.
