My song of the day today features my favorite composer (and writer and artist) of all time: Anonymus! Active for centuries, no, millennia, they have left behind countless works in the musical, literary, and fine arts, some of which are on par with the most famous composers (writers, artists, you name it...) of the respective era. Well, joke aside, anonymous composers have left many good pieces of music for us to listen to, among them my choice of the day: "Que de riza morremo" performed by the Ancient Consort Singers and the Ancient Instrumental Ensemble. This Spanish Renaissance song further is a prime example for how intercultural influences of musical exchange did already exist before the emergence of the popular music styles in the 20th century. It is a "Negro à 8", a "black song" for eight voices and a prime example how musical influences of Africans brought to the New World were absorbed by the Colonial music and ultimately brought back to Spain. It is an early example of musical cultural appropriation, so to say, but that doesn't make it any less pleasant to listen to.
