My song of the day is "Morena" which could be translated as "Brunette", a traditional Sephardic song. The Sephardi Jews are the Jews of the Iberian peninsula speaking Ladino, a Spanish-based language influenced by Hebrew, and who were expelled from Spain in 1492 and from Portugal in 1496 respectively if not forcibly Christianized. Living in diaspora all around the Mediterranean sea, the Sephardi continue to practice a traditional music with its roots in medieval Spain and Portugal but enriched with musical influences from the various countries which became their new home.
The song tells of a Sephardic woman called Brunette despite being born white. She is courted by the son of the king who climbs a ladder to her window and asks her to follow him but she can't, for her veils are too heavy. Though, if he should return she would definitely go with him.
The song is performed by Al Andaluz Project, an ensemble dedicated to the music of the cultures of Medieval Spain: Christian, Sephardic (Jewish), and Muslim (the Muslims of Spain were expelled in 1609 but their traditional music still survives in Northern Africa).

MF DOOM - Raid
https://youtu.be/weWTuvdL-LQ

Probably in my top three songs off the classic album from the Madvillain himself. Even DOOM’s metaphors have metaphors, and his flow ties them all together in this song. Each song off the album is crazy, making Madvillainy probably a top 10 rap album of all time, and this song proves it.

Today I have chosen "Steter dienest der ist guot" composed by the Minnesänger known as Tannhäuser in modern German and Tanhûser in Middle High German, the language of his era and songs. This song tells of a courtly love gone awry and is performed by I Ciatarlani. Normally I make a point not to translate longer lyrics and rather to summarize them but those lyrics are just too good to do this, the more so as the translated version on YouTube is often highly inaccurate. Explanations for better understanding I have added in brackets.

"Constant service is well done
if done to fair ladies
like I have done for mine
whom I must bring the salamander (the fire elemental).
One thing she has demanded:
That I channel the river Rhône for her
From the Provence up to the country
around Nuremberg (in Franconia), so I might well succeed (to win her favor).
And the river Danube over the river Rhine
If I do accomplish this she will do as I wish.
Do I speak "Yes" she speaks "No",
for this wonderful harmony
my lady shall receive gratitude -
she is called "gvote" (i.e. the good one).
Heia hei! She has been too long
out of my watch.

REFRAIN:
Yes today and more and more, yes.
Geez! and more, yes.
My heart calls for help.
What does my beloved do to me,
the pure and the very good one,
that she doesn't make me happy.
That makes me feel woe.

I will rejoice over something even better
I will get from the beauty
when the mountain of the Muses melts like snow.
The pure one will reward me
with everything my heart desires,
that will she grant me -
she will even do my will
should I build her a house from ivory
namely on a lake
so I will have her friendship and her favor.
Do I bring her from Galilee
just so incidentally
a mountain - how do I accomplish that? -
on which Lord Adam (the biblical first human, of course) sat
Heia hei! That would be the greatest price
of all love services.

REFRAIN

A big tree trunk from India
she wants to have from me.
She will even do my will.
Look if I will win everything for her.
I must win the (holy) grail for her
guarded by Sir Percival (a knight of the round table),
and the apple which Paris (Prince of Troy)
gave to Venus, the goddess of love,
and even the cloak which dressed
the woman who was never fickle.
Then she still wants a big miracle
that has become hard for me to do:
she craves for the ark
in which Noah sat enclosed.
Heia hei! Would I bring that
how dear I then would be!

REFRAIN"

My choice today is "Vinta", a traditional Philippine dance depicting a sea journey on a traditional Philippine boat known as vinta. It is musically performed by Fiesta Filipina.

And me again, with traditional music as well. Today I have chosen the "Canto de los Seri e Yaqui", the chant of the Seri and Yaqui, featuring songs of the native people of Sonora in Mexico, performed by Yaki Kandru. The title on YouTube "Musica con Fotutos" is a mix up when compared to the titles on CD.

Seeing as we have Walpurgis Night (April 30), the night when the witches are out and about, my choice of the day is fitting the occasion: "Night on the bare mountain" composed by Modest Mussorgsky, a piece depicting the witches' Sabbath, taking place on Ivan-Kupala (July 6) rather than Walpurgis Night according to Russian tradition.

Classical music ahead!

I've been listening to Negative XP non-stop. Whilst they are stereotypical Punk Rockers, and I thought that they were too amateur-ish at first, they really grew on me as I began to notice the poetic devices and the clever writing. Gotta love 'em, though definitely edgelords not for the feint of heart.

I'm three months late, but definitely, DEFINITELY listen to the Beatles. Not only are my favorite band of all time, but their discography is constantly experimental and is definitely influential at trying to fiddle with the new technologies of the time mixed with unorthodox sounds (such as the satyr and other eastern instruments) to create music. They were only around for a decade, but in that decade, they became the most influential band and contributed more to the entirety of music then anyone else in human history. @Nick_Asano
If you're a JoJo fan, you'll probably recognize "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." The first is from my favorite album, Love, and the second is the original.

Here's Love, which is a remix album made for Cirque Du Soleil which was composed by George Martin (who worked on the original Beatles albums) and his son with the help of Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. It's probably the best introduction to their music, whilst also having the most easter eggs for long-term fans.
