OH SHIT. That title change. Definitely changed from slow quality slice of life to...idk what to call it. Still a masterpiece in the making.

Frieren the Slayer makes more sense than Frieren at the Funeral tbh. We have only seen her at like 2 funerals.
But if its a metaphor for all the funerals she has been to, that also makes sense

did some research
葬送 is the kanji in the title. the first character means bury/ entomb and the second character means send or escort.
together, it is そうそう which means "attendance at a funeral"
while if you read it a character at a time, its to send someone to their grave.
if anyone knows more context i dont hmu
kanji is fascinating as always

Lady Aura's army can suddenly hear heavy metal playing all around them and they have no idea why.

Well, the journey is in honour of her mate's who've already departed for the afterlife. So any gibbing that occurs on the journey can be taken to be incidental funerary offerings. 葬送, it's Frieren's own way of sending off the departed (and possible to-be-departed). の can mean either "at" OR "of" so Frieren at (the) 葬送 / Frieren of (the) 葬送 can both be valid meanings

I see comments querying the title of the manga but I actually think "Feiren at the Funeral" is a very good title. This whole manga is ultimately about her understanding and coming to terms with the feelings she had for her friends, the short (in her eyes) span of time they developed in, and then coming to terms with her friends' deaths. You could look at this whole manga as Feiren's funeral for Himmel. Hence Feiren at the Funeral.

This has many flaws, but it's an ok read... if you enjoy overpowered characters, evil x good stories, no hard work, and slice of life, this is a recommended manga.
If you did find the "being able to live longer than others" topic interesting, try reading "Time enough for love" by Robert A. Heinlein. I remember it from my highschool years, and while it may not have "magic", just "science fiction technology", the MC is not overpowered, struggles to live (in mid of war/colonization, poverty, or just trying to find a reason to not kill himself), and his long life has political implications... that book would actually make you feel a myriad of emotions, be it angst, happiness, sorrow, even ---...
I think my problem with this manga is how you can't relate to any character at all, they're all flat... other thing would be that the author tends to insert events/dialogues out of nowhere, but I do think it's because he's tring to pace the story, without having much sustance (yet)... the whole demons are evil makes no sense to me,but who knows, maybe there may be some future development... all in all, other than toilet reading, there's not much to see here...

Hard disagree on several fronts. It's a story about someone who has never had to think about the inescapable restrictions of time learn to value things on the same temporal scale that the everyday human does. Although there is action, it is not centred around it—I don't think this story is for people who are looking for "good versus evil", "no hard work", or even "overpowered characters". That's completely sidestepping the characters' main internal conflicts and debasing it as a cheesy action flick.

You also mention that "events/dialogue" will "come out of nowhere", but previously mention that it's a slice of life. You say all the characters are flat but each event is either a retrospective view into or exploration of the main character's struggle to try to attain some semblance of the world view that we take for granted, one in which we value the days we have and struggle to ensure that the next is as free and fulfilling as possible. It's not "being able to live longer than others", it's a story of someone "learning to view life through the lens that [others] humans do" in all the enjoyment and the restrictions that that entails.

I've also no idea why you suggest that demons being evil is anything abnormal or a flaw. It's certainly not genre defying, as much as genre defying means in manga where every other title is attempting to break the mold for attention.

All in all, aside from toilet reading, I can't say I endorse your review.

@Soulofkefka I agree with the fact that you can't relate with most of the characters, but it's likely supposed to be that way. Why should you be able to relate to a several century old magical elf? Everyone being relatable in a fantasy story seems stupid. In any story, really. It would imply that everyone's basically the same and there would be no surprises in the way a character acts.

The characters in this story are certainly not flat, either (besides Frieran, in a physical way). It probably seems that way since the characters aren't all too excessively expressive, nor are their internal thoughts constantly being revealed. Also keep in mind that only 17 chapters have been released so far, and this isn't a story where we know a character's history from the get-go.

The enjoyment in this story for me is in slowly gaining an understanding of a mysterious or unrelatable character like Frieran. @Prominis best sums up my thoughts on your thoughts.

And I also have to ask, why would demons being evil be abnormal? The textbook definition of demon is a being of great evil or cruelty. Has there been far too many "Demons good, Humans bad" stories lately that it warped the definition of demon?
