Also, someone on Reddit expressed (joking?) confusion about “famires” (“ファミレス”). Yes, it's an abbreviation of ”family restaurant” (“ファミリーレストラン”). Japanese short forms often don't work in English, but in this case I thought it did. At least, I thought it was the best option. One alternative is turning it into an initialism, something we do more in English, but I thought “famires” worked better than “FR”. In some cases, simply using the full word (“family restaurant”) may work, but I only want to do that when use of the full Japanese word is rare, but use of “ファミリーレストラン” is not rare, so the full “family restaurant” just isn't defensible to me.
