@Ponkadelic I guess the author didn't know how to properly write what happened, or didn't know how to write what would've happened (beyond her being rejected and geting mad, maybe hitting or slapping her), so it just didn't write her in again until a time had passed,

Also the one chapter in between where she's sad and Qiu Tong is consoling her, maybe its indicative of how that all went? She did care for her to an extent, just not to the point that the other girl expected, and she could feel bad for having hurt her unintentionally...but at that point that's mostly speculation on my part.

Can anyone tell me how up to date the English translation of Tamen De Gushi is? Also, can anyone tell me if we should expect future chapters to get released? I fell in love with this series recently and it seemed like it was releasing pretty steadily on a once a month basis but of course as soon as I got current with the chapters it seems to have stopped coming out :(

Thanks in advance! <3

@paulmanton according to SQ, where the Chinese version is uploaded, the English translation is completely up to date. I have no idea if future chapters will be released :(

That makes me feel a lot better!
It shouldn't. Source materials is more precious than any given translation. If the translation were not up-to-date, then some other team might step-in and translate newer chapters. AQs it is, the series appears to be suspended and might not be restarted.

@Oeconomist until I hear definitively that it's ended / cancelled I'll hold out hope. But I do understand how the scanlation game goes as I've worked on a few series. Just radio silence on this specific series :[

I am with you in that hope. And it's better for a series to have an occasional hiatus than for the author or artist to produce inferior work just to stay on schedule.

@Oeconomist Agreed. Even when I love a series it's nice to see them end sometimes because it's a chance for that author to grow in another direction and make something else we'll love!

I think it starts off really good. Like the pursuit is sweet and nice. Characters are interesting and unique. Honestly, unique is pretty important to me and should be to you too since nobody ever deviates from the Romcom archetype. Additionally, it's really well-drawn, way better than the story necessitates. There's a lot of Yaoi and Yuri subtext but that's what you should expect coming into this. The way this story starts out, the author has you question the quintessential dynamic between the dichotomy of gender and genuine sincere love. Without gender dynamics, it's almost like homosexual love is idyllic and preferential to heterosexual love. which is honestly a pretty decent philosophical query to pose, akin to Plato's early writings.

However, you realize that it doesn't actually mean to do this intentionally. The more this narrative naturally develops, its flaws start showing. I would say the point when this story starts to ... worsen is when Qui Tong and Sun Jing's relationship starts becoming more comfortable, not when they begin a romantic relationship. What I mean to say is that Sun Jing's gender doesn't really matter anymore. Qui Tong is still defiantly a girl but Sun Jing's gender is so ambiguous, the theme or central idea that the narrative pivots around is lost.

You could respond to this by saying "Sun Jing is a tomboy and she likes basketball" but the author completely dismisses the female form as the story progresses or the female nuances established in the beginning of the story, mostly in Sun Jing's interactions with her classmates. Had you started the story halfway, you wouldn't think for a second that Sun Jing was a girl. During the pursuit, her female qualities are accentuated but as the pursuit is complete, the author stops making her a female.

Also, I had hoped they would develop Qi Fang's character faster but its going by pretty slowly. Its pretty clear to me, the reader, that the author doesn't know how to progress the story anymore since it's apparently wrapped itself up. Sun Jing is no longer a girl, dismissing the Yaoi factor, and the he/she amalgamation has actualized true love in forgoing her natural gender.

@fhq I think you're looking way too far into this and seeing things that aren't even there. Sun Jing's character being perceptively masculine probably has more to do with this being drawn and written by Tan Jiu and the BL implications of that.

@Hobnobs I don't think I'm reading too far into this, I'm just bothered by the narrative and my explanation is undoubtedly a little long-winded which makes it seem like I'm reading way too deeply into something that, frankly, doesn't deserve it. In any case, it is fun to analyze a piece of art, perhaps, beyond its intention.

There are many yaoi and yuri archetypes and despite not reading very much of the genre, I can point a couple of them out. One of them is that the there is some semblance of a love triangle or obstacle to the fruition of the MCs' pastoral love. The obstacle mostly serves as a metaphor for the societal reservations towards homosexual love. It's a modern sentiment, these yaoi yuri narratives. Logically, beyond the influences of religion of which a majority of China and Japan don't follow under Christian denomination, the only apt response to homosexuality is that it's unnatural, like square pegs in round holes.

I think the most progressive components of this manga/comic is that none of the characters appear to parallel this sentiment. They're unrelentingly and confidently apathetic, as though it were a normal thing. The yaoi subtext echos this theme, there's never a question of incompatibility that normal logical hetero relationships have. They're straight-forward and they don't play the exhausted pursuit. This comic excels in this aspect. They deal with it in a different novel way and, in addition to having interesting and intriguing characters, it's provocative.

Another is that the two character's characteristics compliment one another, as opposed to be in direct opposition such as the popular tsundere archetype in Hetero narratives. The way this manifests is in two ways; either they're both similar in personality with one being a more pronounced variant of the first or they're driven by intense physical lust (its similar to the first but the complementary feature exists in viscerality).

Sun Jing's personality no longer compliments Qi Fang's in a consistent way. Their relationship starts off like that. When they first meet, they're both really excited, ecstatic, and inexperienced; they compliment each other well. However, as the story progresses, Sun Jing forgoes this character trait. All of a sudden, she's stoic, self-assured, and confident. It's not merely the physical features of Sun Jing, though that is an issue. She loses the female form in both psychology and tangibility. They compliment each other in the terms of a hetero relationship.

I've heard the Chinese government is messing with mangas hence why I'm assuming is the reason the chapters are all messed up now. 3 months ago I didn't see any issue with this series but now the chronological order and some chapters has been cut or moved

@GuildMasterJin not sure about manhua, but they are messing up with novels, till now "Tales of the Reincarnated Lord" (one of the novels I used to like the most) got taken down cause of some sex scene and "Daoist Gu" (very interesting plot, but mc is fucked up) is currently being analysed, cause of the nature of this novel goes against what "they" want to show the world >.>
possibly a lot more that I didnt read.

something about friendship, love for the parents and country, expect any work contrary to it to be taken down. :/

Tamen De Gushi did used to be fun, but now is just so-so. I guess only "Please Take My Brother Away!" and "Violent Path Martial Arts School" are still funny to read, but no one is translating the later.

Someone should crowdfund the author’s ticket and stay costs to Japan where she could write the story withiut being censored.

There's so much to like about this series. The art is awesome, so delicate and bright. I love the slow romantic build-up of these two and how Sun Jing seems so cool but quickly loses her poise in front of the girl she loves. The comedy is great. 10/10 for me
