It's a really basic stance you can find in just about any swordsmanship manual. In terms of Kenjutsu, it's closest to the Jodan no Kamae.

It's not super obvious, but they are wearing armor; Abel's wearing a brigandine, just without all the rivets shown, while Gaine is wearing something very similar to an embellished, long gambeson (as befitting a prince), just without the quilting.

I'm more concerned at the lack of helmets, but those only rarely get used in any media to better show off the character's face, so I've just resigned myself to never seeing them used when it matters.
