How long do you want to keep going your hate speach? According to history, a good French citizen should:

• Cause civil wars from the era of Charlemagne to the present when the poor and the lower classes are treated like garbage by all the right wing spectrum.
• Persecuting the Jews from X to XII century and banishing them several times in the following centuries.
• Calling crusades for Jerusalem and against the nobles that were not pro-Anjou, including chastising the ones from Aquitaine with the excuse of purging Cathar believers in the name of the Pope.
• Starting long wars with huge human loses (not unly the One Hundred Years one).
• Colonising half Africa and contributing with slave/human trafficking to the Americas, plus the French Polynesia and others.
• With the rise of Napoleon, attacking again all the neighbours and "assimilating" French minorities (Occitans, Gasconians, Bretons, etc.) by considering them 2nd class citizens because they don't speak French. Don't forget not to pay your troops so they have to spoil, sack and loot the territories they occupy.
• Since they were losing the rest of the colonies, start wars in North Africa because they are a colonial empire and they need slaves.
• Ignoring the rise of fascism and don't let Republican Spanish refugees flee from Spain. More things regarding WW II that are commonly known.
• Permitting pedophilia and interviewing in TV the most infamious pedophiles who wrote about their experiences in freely published books while ignoring human rights.

What is being French again and what that makes you a good citizen? Is still "assimilation" an innocuous word for integrating into society? If you don't want people around the world blame you by the attrocities your country committed, stop putting all the people different to you in the same bag, because while Europeans were busy with wars during the past Millenium the Muslims were too busy with science. fine I'll stop but I'm gonna say this, there's a reason as to why we get immigrations and they don't, that's because we're a nicer place to live in than their's and that's because we built it nicer than them (yeah we stepped on some toes but they'd have done the same if they could have) and I doubt that our nice place will stay as nice if we're not here anymore, it might even become less nice like their old place (you know, same place where they've lived up until coming over).

personally, I've seen quite alot of non french people succesfully integrating into french culture and being upstanding citizens, so clearly it isn't a herculean task with so few acheivers that they can all be considered exceptions to the rules.


but then again, I do live in an urban area where I do frequently see alot of integrated foreigners who speak french fluently. so I would know and expect by experience that my standard for who should be allowed in my country to be much higher than usual. although if that's the problem, I gotta ask why it is. why is it that having a perfectly reasonable standard that's relatively easy to acheive frowned upon ?

The head chef in the banquet kitchen I worked in for almost a decade was a stickler about keeping all the storage areas clean, which makes sense since it keeps the potential for vermin down. But he was really particular about the floors in dry storage, so one day someone asked him why that had to be swept out every day.

His response was that he had started out in a kitchen with an old-school French chef (tall hat, threw knives at people and swore in French when he was angry, apparently a very stereotypical 'French chef'), and for the first year, everyone who started there was on probation and could be fired for literally anything at any time. Another young guy started out, made it to the last day of his year, and as the head chef was closing up the kitchen that day, he found a single grain of rice on the floor in storage and completely came unglued. Thankfully, he didn't ask who had dropped the grain of rice on the floor until the start of work the next day, at which point the guy had his year and could only be written up rather than fired on the spot.

So I guess the moral is don't spill rice.
