Welp... Not two months after we lost little Potato, the fiestiest kitten this side of Texas... Looks like things are getting worse. My Dog "Pooch" (I know), who I've had for 8 years now is having quite a bad week. He's had seizures for the past 4 years. Most since we moved 3 years back. My brother said it's a new genetic thing that's arisen in smaller dogs, and he's a chihuahua mixed with something else.
He's had odd ones where he seizes up and makes odd grunting sounds when he gets excited, but they stopped after a while. Went to the vet, helped him out. This year though it's been the worst. TWICE he's had real bad ones. The first time he screamed while he was sleeping, went completely limp aside from his arms which were clutching his head...
Me and my mom rushed him into the bathroom, massaged his chest and bathed him in cold water. The first time he came back and struggled for a bit. The Second time i rushed him into the bathroom and started the massage so fast he was shaking water off himself and hopping around like usual not a few hours later.
Now though, over the weekend... He's started moving slower, at first we thought he broke something, maybe he fell down the stairs, stretched wrong in the sheets he likes to burrow in. We don't know entirely and will go to the vet again. But, this problem comes in waves.
It's like, he's unsure, and he can barely move about without help. He comes back though, wanders about normally. And then it goes back...
I hope through the vet we find a solution. He's been with us for so long, he's been such a good dog... He's always sat at my feet, and for the past 5 years I've always carried him around. He's been loved, and it really hurts seeing him this way...
I just hope there's a medicine or something. I don't want him to be in pain... we'll know our options soon.
I know some may be like "oh they're just pets" but, Potato... I cared for her for 4 weeks, bottle feeding, playing. And Pooch... 8 years of playing, 8 years of him. I'm 22 now... Since I was 14 he's been with me, beside me, at my feet, on my lap. When I worked summer jobs my mom told me he would sit by my chairs and howl, and would wait by the door when I was getting close to home.
We haven't had a dog in my life who's been with me this long. Our oldest cat who's still with us is Biscuit and he'll be 12 soon, still going strong... But, Pooch... He's always been strong though, I hope he'll perk up again. We'll fix him up. These past 3 years he's had such a better life, an actual yard to run around in compared to the scary, sticker (gras burr) infested slope...
He's... The Dog... My Dog... He was even there for Potato, he'd sit by, let her climb him, play with him. He did the same for our other cat "Gato" who's 5 or so now. She's even worried. When this started I found her sitting beside him. Even Biscuit is being around him more.
What a screwed up year... God, heal my pooch. Take away his pain. I don't care how many ankles he nips, I want him to be happy again.
