Several things in play there, but the
By default Euphy's wish shouldn't result in her becoming a monster so long as she can limit her wish to only 'having a claim to the throne'. However if her wish were to include 'spreading Anis' new magic' you can imagine a bad scenario where she just starts murdering people opposed to new magic. On the other hand this wish probably prevents a 'democracy' ending since she can't have a claim to a throne that doesn't exist and she might go insane.

So basically it's one of those legal contracts where you can get cucked hard if you didn't clearly define the scope of the contract and how big it is early on and with no option to revise the contract in the future, you are damned if you make a mistake.

So a spirit contract actually gave magic to humans who were magicless. By removing/converting parts of the soul into something that spirits could inhabit/replace. And these voids are passed down by heredity.
So someone with attributes in all magic has an incomplete soul that many different types of spirits can inhabit while commoners along with Anis have complete souls which spirits can't enter.

She says that spirits are mixed into ALL souls (except visitors' / otherworlders' souls) so it's unlikely that anyone messed with the souls directly.

The nobility have more spirit in their soul and that is what gives them magic. If the nobility are descended from spirit contractors then that also makes sense, the ratio of spirit in their soul is simply higher because of their lineage as descendant from literal (former human) spirits.

What's unclear to me is if the souls of people who have more spirits in them are / were damaged by being born as humans or if they are simply more porous.

Problem with this arc is not even Euphy becoming an empty husk over time. It is once again everyone taking the agency away from Anis and deciding what is best for her while ignoring her. Even brute forcing it against her will.

That goes both ways; Anis is trying to block Euphie's desires too.

Anis wants to be queen (for some duty-driven value of 'want'); Euphie wants to be queen (for ditto). They can't both be queen (or can they???) so one's gonna lose.

Euphie wins and becomes queen. Lots of making out and eventually sex happens. Euphie is at some risk of losing her humanity but so far Anis keeps her anchored. Also, Anis becomes immortal herself somehow (I forget; effect of the dragon tatoo and magicite?) so they can immortal lesbians together. They don't intend to rule forever though, in fact Euphie talks about abdicating absurdly quickly. So things are pretty happy, and sexy, in the end.

I said it before i'll say it again. Every shit that happened since the beginning is her shitty parent's fault.

The empty husk thing is extremely overstated, it's a trope that comes up in any and all talks of humans becoming immortal and living for "too long". Even when phased as 'disconnected from how a human should be' that does not change.

Beyond that you just have people with conflicting interests. Anis wants to fulfil her duty (she does not want to be Queen, that's just what she has to do to fulfill her duty) and atone for pushing it on her brother. Euphy wants to be Queen to prevent Anis from doing something she doesn't want to do just to accomplish a different related thing that she does want to do.

But yes the King and Queen have fucked up immensely for a long time and this whole arc should be just as much of them realizing that as it is anything else.

Yes, you are also possibly damned if you don't take into consideration changing circumstances.

Euphy could surely achieve all that without the spirit contract. The solution is rather simple: Anis marries Euphie. They can rule together. Euphie would deal with the old fart "nobles" and Anis can keep spreading magicology. Sure, the inheritance issue remains, but two geniuses could figure that out I'm sure. However, with Euphie's current plan, that issue remains unresolved. Or what, does she want to suck up to some of those old farts and hump on the son of one of them until her belly grows?


Oh, they were there, hiding in the shadows. Looking at how their plan unfolded.

If I am reading how dangerous these contracts can be correctly then she killed him because she no longer saw him as the king, but as a 'wish granting monster'. Even if she didn't want to kill her father, she was compelled to kill the monster posing as kking.

Is that something from the LNs cause if not that's a bit of a reach.

Unless plot demands that they show up right after this arc, completely rendering any other choice for the previous arc useless, by the time a real spirit contractor shows up MC's magical revolution will be in full swing, shifting society in a direction that is less reliant on spirit contractors.

There is a possibility that they could show up and no one (except Lumi) would knew what they were. Perhaps a 'great hero blessed by gods/spirits' could actually be a spirit contractor. They also don't have to have appeared recently, they could have popped up 200 years ago then went hermit mode after everyone they knew died.

That still doesn't change anything.

If a spirit contractor came to a vampire kingdom, you would have your hero overthrowing the tyrant.

If a spirit contractor came to a dragon kingdom, the nobles would prop them up as a hero overthrowing the tyrant.

A spirit contractor showing up would screw everyone's plans either way, why complain about it with this particular plan? With Euphy as a fake contractor, nobody has a reason to uproot the status quo, whether or not this supposed spirit contractor had any interest in the throne.

Reading all these comments about the anime and how it usually never tell the full story makes it sadder for me that Endo & Kobayashi's anime  does tell the whole story while the manga got screwed over within sight of the finish line...
