Felt really rushed, that one. And I guess this is one way to avoid the whole dilemma of having to somehow give the other side of the story. The author just avoided the Oni altogether, probably because he had no idea how to make the reader sympathetic to them given their "proclivities", as I suspected.
quite likely frankly i don't see any way you can make invaders, who plunder and rape woman, sympathetic. so rather than try mental gymnastics that frankly few would believe they decided to just cut their losses and move on instead.

Wait, we're not even going to see any of the Oni? I liked learning about the "god" or whatever the giant was, but I was hoping we could get a direct look at the Oni to see both sides of the story.

The main goal of his trip is about searching for the origin of Yosogi School, and he already learned enough: where the school used to be, what kind of achievements they had, why did they leave the country to travel westward. He also acquired the technique to forge katana so that the school's students can revive some old skills if they wish for it. The secondary task is to visit the Fusou tree and find more clues about the Giants, which might lead him to the "white lake" that Irena wishes to see. In retrospect, he's doing all of those for women. :pacman:

On another note, the oni is just a sideline gossip he heard along the way, there's no personal reason for him to involve too deeply.

When does he go back to his original country (not the elf one). Its very nice but its been a while since weve seen the characters all the way back there.

Ig hes going to make a trip around the world in ancient elf slowmo style?

I feel people are misunderstanding Aesir here.....
Yes, the situation is not ideal, and faeries and......

But.... his ..sentiments are with humans, and honestly... the only way to resolve the current situation would be to engage in an act of pure genocide. By sinking/quick-dunking the entire island. And yes, he can......
The fruit will aid the fairies to an extent, but they'll either die out or find a way to co-exist with his favourite race, the humans. Something which isn't happening elsewhere.

This is a very subtle hint that he can afford to check up on this after a century or two to see how things are ...developing...
And nuke the place if it didn't work out...

I swear our long-lived elf bro just caught a bad case of ADD...

No onis, then a drive-by with the sprites. He's used to hanging out somewhere for decades and then this.

Ok, weell, that was kind of an abrupt end to that arc (we never saw any onis! What's up with that!). And now this one... Aesir's done a lot of good things that will no doubt resound in time so far, but this might well end up being his single worst mistake in the past 200-odd years of his life. Should be interesting to see which way this spins out in the end, if there's a retrospective.

I really appreciate the author not making our MC a "Hero to save the world and help the weak" archtype, its refreshing that the MC doesnt get too involve into matters that recent self righteous MC always does

Couldn't he discourage the privateers with some magic, and not have the side trip? Make a water spout, whirlpool, rogue wave. Oh well , author wanted the side trip

This chapter is a reminder that our guy isn't a pushover. We've only ever seen him hand out the super duper magic ultra fruits casually, but that's to his friends and people he KNOWS are good people. When requested to give the fruit to save a species he doesn't care. Not when they're being manipulative and exploitative. He only gives out the fruit in hopes of causing a major balance shift.

Wait, what the fuck? What happened to finding the OG Yosogi Ryu? Wasn't that the whole point of the trip?
did you not read the story? he did find the origin the OG IS DEAD the descendants left to take shelter in neighboring countries one of which was ludria there one of them must have founded the dojo and recreated what little they knew of the swordstyle.
but the full original style of the Yosogi Ryu died when the Yosogi clan was wiped out the current version of the Yosogi Ryu is again a incomplete recreation of the style

Well ... Aesir was thinking often on what he could do about the oni. The mermaid even caught onto that (though he clearly hadn't talked directly with her about it), and told him whatever he did would turn out fine.
And then what he "did" turned out to be "nothing"?! So weird.
He even thought about going up north, and seeing if there was any sort of (reasonable) reason for their behavior, since he could only get the other side from humans, mermen and tengoku.
OH! He didn't even meet any wingmen!?
WTH!?
It's like the mangaka got bored/lost interest/forgot what he'd planned, and just jeeted Aesir out of "not-Japan"!?

Yeh. Aesir even thought about finding out "the other side of the story" ...
But no ...

Eh.
Nah.
There are intermediate levels to this.
Aesir's already injected some "Western" tech into "not-Japan", which might help them.
He could make that effort a bit more guided, or actually "actually" make an effort to make a low-key systemic/cultural change.
Also, he could of course go up, check on things, find another unreasonable boss oni, and do like that original dojo woman, to make them back off even more?
Or even some up-in-their-faces mayhem to scare them off. The power balance would shift even if the oni only back off a bit, since the half-oni aren't as long-lived, so he'd reduce the available oni military force that way (even if they didn't fight, they'd fall off in numbers, by dying of old age).
But yeah, Aesir has so far not been very up-in-anybody's-face if he could avoid it.
It's interesting from a perspective point of view.
I'm still surprised that he didn't even do any closer research on the oni.
One possible story could have been to have him introduce horses to the island. Or gunpowder (imagine the tengoku bombing the oni troops?). But yeah, that's the kind of thing we'd see in less complex/thought through shonen (or even seinen) manga.
That said, this arc was unusually shallow, at least at first glance.
Or. Let's say fragmentary?
