This arc is what lead me to drop the novel. I'm really hoping this isn't like 100 chapters of the manga. It might be a few years before we are done with it and I get to see the outcome.

Wasn't that pretty much the origin of paper money? Contracts that got normalised into pure value.
It has been too long since I read about the birth of paper money and furthermore the fiat money, so I can't recall any details anymore. I'd have guessed, based on my recollections, that at first paper money was also tied to gold, like, well, the first real money, which was simply worth its own value in whatever it was made of. Of course paper money, even if it was tied to gold, would still allow the government to take risks, like issuing more money than they own gold, and possibly thus earn extra. Or crash if they got too greedy. You can certainly also make or lose money with agricultural futures as well, even if they are more useful for allowing producers (farmers) and industry/retail to have more peace of mind.

But you could very well be correct. I just can't remember.

Yeah, I've read about it, but I forgot the exact details. Paper money was up to relatively recently backed by gold, so it's essentially been a promise to buy gold for the value on the bills and coins. Before gold (including other valuable metals) it was other things, although gold-centric currency has probably been the most common throughout history. And anything based on a promise is a risk with a potential gain, since the situation can change.

They even leave sister behind so her sword doesn't have a chance of breaking that piece of joke stick known as katana as soon as it apappears.

Aha, figured it out. The spoiler text thing didn't work super well, it put everything inside the brackets.

Essentially he goes and everything is literally just Japan. Every chapter is introducing something like chopsticks, sitting at a table, vases, outfits, etc. Multiple chapters on hot-springs or looking around the Ryokan. After about 30-40 chapters into the Japanese arc, they still hadn't even talked really about rice. Just them walking around. So I expect three months waits between food stalls with the pace of the manga. My only hope is that they roll many chapters into one art chapter.

Now that he has Roomba he just needs Hoover, Dyson, and Bissell to complete the collection.

What's that map? Mountains in the sea?

Considering the number of female warriors, it should be reasonably likely a samurai girl shows up. And katanas aren't complete shit tier. They're more like average, although not comparable to European swords of the time since they had different purposes and thus were designed with different strengths.

It's one of the rare slow life isekais that's actually slow life.

Nah, usually they claim to be about slow life, but there's always some world-changing drama that pops up they need to deal with as the heroes of the realm, which keeps it from being actual slow life. Or at least, that's my impression.
It is true about the tendency of "slow life but big things happen" but this really does stick to what it claims to be whether you get bored out of your mind and stop reading or not. I stopped reading the novel at around the kagura part but at least the manga is a bit more interesting.

When was the last time we've seen Al so happy and pumped with something?

Buying crops, or pretty much anything, before it's actually ready to be sold, is called the futures contract, or simply futures. It's a common way of trading agricultural products. Now that I checked the Wikipedia article, there's apparently a Greek legend of it happening in the classical era, but even if that wasn't true, it's a very old invention of economics, nonetheless. And yeah, it's naturally an integral part of trading rice.

This chapter seemed to weirdly suggest a setting where the MC is living on an European themed continent, but will travel to a Japanese themed continent, and is advertising it by mentioning dishes that Europeans introduced to the Japanese in our world in the past. Why does he need to do to Kagura to get those? He could probably get them from nearby cities in his own country? In addition to rice, there would have been East Asian dishes the author could have used.
Why are you against him wanting to go to Kagura? I think it's pretty normal to want to go to the origin of something you love.

I don't recall being against it. I said he doesn't need to advertise going to Kagura by telling his food-loving family the place will have dishes that should be present in any of their own neighbouring cities. Instead the author could have had him mention only East Asian dishes, which would be plentiful enough. This hasn't really got anything do with the story of this series, only with the author's careless way of handling it. It doesn't bother me that much, it was just a silly detail, but it's not like the chapter would have had anything much worth talking about.
