Like there's that one dude who replaces every -chan with "dear" even if it really doesn't make sense and ruins the flow.

I honestly wish more translators would do this. It always sounded weird to me adding Japanese honorifics in an English translation.

It varies for me. In an inherently Japanese setting like 100 GFs it's fine. It's when you go into a random fantasy isekai or similar and hear them calling people "King-dono" that my eye twitches a bit.

That's where it mostly sounds weird for me. I'm hopelessly addicted to fantasy/ isekai so that's where my aversion to kept Japanese honorifics comes from.

Speaking of all this to San or not to San speak, one thing I REALLY HATE is when onee-san or onee-chan is translated into nothingness, like when an onee-san type character talks in the third person and the translators just leave out onee-san and don't even bother translating it into big sis or big sister.

Translators are supposed to translate the language, not remove whatever words they want from the language to make things easier for themselves.

A rough translation of “Chan” would be “little” said with affection. And Japanese is not the only language that refers to people like this. For example in Spanish you would also call people and things “little” as a show of affection.
