The hair overrides the brain. I suppose that's fairly similar to Doc. Oc. Being controlled by his tentacles. Also, regarding the first few pages, we're still technically in an ice age as we speak, it just isn't an intense flare up. I learned a bit ago that that just means the caps have ice on them (or that glaciers exist anywhere in the surface).
