@criver Yes, the premise is how the story starts, but generally people prefer their stories to go somewhere. We've read this particular chapter a dozen times now, with minor variations.

There may be a fundamental issue in that Nishimura being bullied accounts for most of the conflict that drives the story, and Takada being clueless is an integral part to who he is. I could imagine a development where he stops being clueless and suddenly loses his ability to be assertive towards Nishimura, and Nishimura being forced to realize that she has to be the assertive one now.

You're forgetting the fact that you are reading a work made of pretty pictures with the target audience being young children. Read books or one of the few manga with good writing if that is what you want. You'll be sorely disappointed if you expect palatable writing from most manga.
