We all agree that the nobles are bad, but the reason we don't mind is that Pamela clearly doesn't die, they are talking mostly about social execution, heck someone mentions that in the novel, Pamela comes back and is referenced, she is so not dead she goes to live with her family.
Too bad her social position is in tatters and it seems she becomes so traumatized she doesn't want to leave the house anymore, much less talk about Constance, which is still really bad, but considering the nobles here and her characterization, she probably would have laughed at Constance dancing for hours and hours on end while everyone mocked her, privately happy that the "hypocrite" got punished and her plan worked.
Which is also part of the reason people don't mind the ending, Pamela is not sympathetic at all, heck, she even implies she bullies other people as she didn't expect the boy to say anything after all she did to him, and Brenda seemed genuinely scared of her, she wouldn't have minded if Constance and her father fell into ruin or their lives got destroyed and their reputation shattered, she even smiled when she saw Constance looking at her next to her fiance before they kissed.
Punishment was severe, but she's not dead and she is getting exactly what she wished to do on Constance for no other reason than her being a simple girl with a motto of honesty and yet having an attractive boyfriend.
