I think this story is to tell us that it’s already too late for Yuuma. He can’t be saved by every single thing that was there to protect him (The schoolmate, the police officer, sadly can’t think of anything else…the door?). And that he’s already surrounded by forces that will break and consume him by the time he considers he should stop.
