For all those who are currently giving the MC shit about not jumping to the rescue, I would like you to review what the best method of handling an emergency like this is. Sure he could jump up and beat the guy in a fight, but then what about the room full of innocent bystanders. During him jumping up the guy could fire randomly and kill people, and even if he's the only one that's shot more people could die. Contrary to the fictional belief that bullets only hit one person, blocking a bullet with your body doesn't always work. Maybe it'll go through him and barely damage his health pool, but if it hits somebody behind him then they are gone. So he's got too much to risk here to just jump into action randomly.
He also has to consider that anything odd he does will ruin his entire life, so hoping that Blondy does something isn't a bad thing. Worst case scenario for her, she gets transferred somewhere else. He's having to look for the right opportunity to stop this, or hope that somebody else can. Smart doesn't mean weak.
