@GodGinrai Yeah, he would need to be a fool to trust someone who obviously hates the empire. He ought to realise he is as well, as a part of the royal bloodline, someone the queen dowager would likely want to see ruined. I could imagine she might want to see the whole upper echelons of the empire destroyed and the empire itself dismantled.

@Kaarme Oh absolutely but if dowager is threatening his wife then really what choice does he have? It would be a truly heartless person to just let their loved one die.

@wilddeath It wouldn't really matter much if he saved his wife only to see his whole family get destroyed a little later as a result of the dowager's plans, depending on how far her plans go. Though naturally we should assume he knows the dowager better than we do. Maybe he really could gain his grand duchy and nothing much would otherwise change, with the dowager and her favourites getting more power, only her select few enemies getting destroyed. However, considering her background and how she's shamelessly working behind the scenes any chance she gets, I personally wouldn't trust her a single bit and would assume anyone could get backstabbed in her plans. At the end of the day she is now working against her own family.
