That is an odd line of thinking, charity is needed because solving the root causes is difficult and takes time, ideally you should be doing both at the same time, not one or the other.
Of course she is doing it hypocritically though, since she quite likely waste more money personally than what is actually spent on that charity.

I do find it a bit funny though that she is holding a charity for the poor in what looks like a fairly rich area of the capital, forcing both poor and rich people to more clearly see the divide between each other, something that has a risk of creating the spark for a revolution.
Doubt she ever considered that and probably just didn't want to step into the slum.
Ideally. But in reality, you can't. Wasting money to feed people when you need fund to improve the economy, huh? Do you really think there's a room for that? It's at this time that you need to make harsh choices and sacrifices. Sure, there will be dead bodies, but a few blood on your hands will save a lot more. She needs to put everything in improving the economy first, and only when there's a real improvement which made a room for charity, that's when the charity could be done. This isn't the time for it.
Yours is the odd one.

If she's trying to give food for the entire country, and without improving the economy too, considering the amount of people able to pay the taxes, and the ratio of people able/unable to pay them, then I'd say she could only do this for a year and half at most. If you add politics and X factors like Remilia, then maybe 2-4 months at most. After the economy collapsed, she's a dead meat and all of her plans for popularity would go down to smoke for sure. She's a joke. She reminded me of a certain clown voted for president and provoked a war to a huge country and now reaping what he sow, paying it greatly.
Feed the entire country?, all we have seen so far is one single location that she is manning personally.

Doing charity without improving the economy first? What are you, an idiot? You don't even understand the root cause. Eliminate the root cause first, that's what true charity is, not some shallow plan to make yourself look good, which is called hypocrisy.
On the other hand, if you were starving, would you or should you care about the hypocrisy or narcissism of the person holding the ladle?

The greatest form of charity, as described by the Rambam, is to assist others by helping them before they become dependent on others, such as by giving them a loan or helping them find employment, allowing them to retain their dignity. The second greatest form is to give with complete anonymity, with the giver not knowing who the receiver is, and the receiver not knowing who the giver is. The protagonist is doing one of these for a nation of 30,000.

The level of charity the Maiden is doing is likely between the 5th and 7th levels, 5th being giving to the poor directly without being asked, 6th being giving after being asked, and 7th being giving inadequately but cheerfully.

In other words, the Maiden's charity is to a verifiably lesser degree than the protagonists.

I think I would. I don't want pity. Pity is them, people of higher status, mocking me. Rather than pity like that, I want job. Because them giving me jobs is actually them giving me respect to what I am capable of doing, to who I am, and my efforts. I would rather die than be a beggar like that. No way.

With the amount of people in that place and the rumours going around, and if she's also spreading the propaganda that she's a saint, whether she has the intention of feeding the entire country wouldn't matter. The entire country's poor people and beggars are gonna flock there by themselves. And it's gonna create a huge economical disturbance and imbalance, especially when the food was taken out of the country's income. It's gonna be hard to make any development for the country. Heck, forget development, at this rate even economic growth is hard, and looking at the rate of the corruption affected by her and the nobles, I think it's gonna be worse. That's the side effect. She didn't think nor anticipate that far.

Chinese Dress Remilia!

Remilia really did act a lot like Emi here! Kind and pragmatic. But she still injected her own knowledge of politics and scheming. She wants to help the demons, because by helping them, she'll be able to fulfill her goal of creating a world where Emi can smile! Remilia really did plan so far ahead with her monster fights too, she was able to gather materials that were perfect for use in teleportation gates. I'm quite excited to see what happens next!

Kinda disgusting that the "Star Maiden" is doing charity though. She's running out of goodwill, isn't she?

This is legit one of the best villainess manga ever. It's always so satisfying reading about Remilia.

I wonder what the deal is with the star maiden since we haven't seen that much of her story wise.
We know she's from our world and loves her OTPS and is a massive
cunt
But like besides that, is she trying to keep tabs on Remilia at all because she is basically the sole driver of the plot.
Without Remillia going crazy and bringing destruction upon the world of man (and destroying all the doors) the story can't advance at all and the star maiden is worse than useless.

Remilia is hugely manipulative, using her superior knowledge to play everyone around her like a fiddle. The only thing keeping her from being correctly judged as a monster is her utter devotion to 'Emi', which constrains her to take more socially-acceptable courses of action.

It's why this series is just so, so good. Remilia is absolutely a villain, who only cares about her own selfish desires and goes to great lengths to fulfill them. She has not really changed from the original character, who summoned the demon lord to ravage the world.

Luckily for everyone who isn't the Star Maiden and her harem, her desires are currently focused on pleasing a genuinely good person. So instead of drowning the world in fire and blood to get her revenge, she's giving everyone the happiest of endings so that she can usurp the "heroine"'s very reason for existence.
Not just pleasing Emi though, she seems to genuinely enjoy what she is doing and although her methods are deceitful and manipulative, she is happy making people's lives better. Even if Emi somehow got her soul separated and Remilia expected to keep her own original body, thanks to having so many of Emi's memories and values, it doesn't seem like she would go out of her way to harm people.
