Bill Gates and his merry band of social engineers are now stating that math is racist.
Pardon me, but what the fuck?

Apparently the logic, or lack there of, is that logic and reading comprehension are racist tools of ethnic suppression.

I’m paraphrasing obviously, but he calls expectations of basic literacy and having basic arithmetic skills “white supremacy culture.”

He is advocating for people to get full marks despite not getting the correct answer. Why? Apparently reading is too hard now.

>muh literacy tests
There is a very clear difference between helping Sally figure out how many watermelons she needs in order to recreate her party tricks from her sorority days and a proctor slamming your table, whacking your hand with a switch, banging pots and pans, and throwing things at you during a test in order to goad a reaction out of you all so he can fail you.

At a certain point you just have to confront the unfortunate truth: /pol/ is running the planet and I want off this wild ride.

I feel like a one doctor, professor, the honorable, reverend Samuel Whitcomb Hyde is to blame for this.

Though there are some exceptions: Macron loves the US so much he even made sure General Electric's takeover of Alstom (frnehc manufacturer of nuclear turbines) would go through.

Bold of you to assume Macron is going to push for any position that isn't a spineless NeoLib position.

It’s more a mix of horror and disgust, I guess...

It’s like I’m watching a slow yet inevitable decay of a country and people are cheering it on because it “feels good.”

This is just going to exacerbate the issues he’s trying to highlight.

@EzWeeb Nah, the more people who use y'all the better. It's like when you're winning a cultural victory in Civ 5 and the opponent is complaining that their people are "buying your blue jeans." It means I'm winning.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/18/opinion/fake-news-media-attention.html

"Resist the lure of rabbit holes, in part, by reimagining media literacy for the internet hellscape we occupy." or "dont look into our bullshit just take what is said at face value. wouldnt want you to get 'confused'"

I don't blame you. Poetry is the one aspect of creative English that you absolutely cannot force people into or to do and yet 4 fucking years of my English classes tried to ham-fist it in between Ethan Frome and shitty books about the Holocaust.

For the love of God, I hope Biden and all the Leftists/Liberals/Democrats/City Slickers/Dumbasses/Whatever the fuck I’m supposed to call em’ fail in tightening firearms restrictions and the outright banning of AR-15s. Shit’s already been hard as it is. They had their rude awakening during the panic buying. Fucking “what do you mean we’ve had background checks” bullshit. Fucking “what do you mean I can’t buy and bring this home now” bullshit. Hell, honest people who never thought that they would need a firearm still have to deal with low ammo supplies on shelves, while Boomers are laughing with their massive stockpile of ancient shit...

The NFA and the ATF were a mistake...

Fucking “defund the police” bullshit, YOU FUCKED YOURSELF BY BEING RELIANT ON THE POLICE. GOD DAMN IT, SECURE YOUR OWN MEANS OF DEFENSE, AND STOP STICKING OUT LIKE A KNIFE IN A NECK. DON’T DO DUMB SHIT LIKE GETTING HIGH ON FENTANYL AND ATTACKING A PREGNANT WOMAN, OR BEING IN A MOB HARASSING A KID WITH A RIFLE AT HIS PLACE OF WORK. FUCKING DUMBASS BULLSHIT.

I AIN’T A GOD DAMN REPUBLICAN, BUT I FUCKING HATE EVERYONE ELSE FOR SHITTING ON THE SECOND AMENDMENT HARDER. I FUCKING HATE THE NRA FOR DOING NOTHING TO DEFEND FOREIGN FIREARMS IMPORTS, BUT AT LEAST THEY CARE ABOUT THE DOMESTIC SUPPLIES. THEY’RE STILL SHIT FOR NOT HELPING DURING THE BUMP STOCK BULLSHIT, BUT NOT AS STEAMING HOT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

@CyanHide No one wants to be a republican, conservative, sure, but not a republican. Republicans are just controlled opposition to the left.

It's mostly because poetry is so unstructured that teaching it is really, really hard.

I'd recommend teaching people how to analyze music first and getting used to how the rhythm and sound fits into meter, and then analyzing poetry based on knowing how structure of a poem is meant to go, thereby allowing you to analyze it more effectively when the rules of a language is played with or broken to create specific sounds.

For instance, Virgil shows how devasted Bibo becomes by Aneas leaving her by these broken sentences with verbs being paragraphs away from their antecedents and nouns with adjectives modifying them paragraphs away to show this sense that Dido is in a broken mental state. It can work in lain because of how precise of a language it is, but it's not as translatable in English. Hence why most poetry is language-specific.

Normally, I'd suggest Lewis Carol if you want to learn how to analyze poetry because he can fuck with sound and form, plus he uses concrete poetry to really mess with you

@Tamerlane we wrote 500 word essay on a misspelled word which just turned out to be a fault in the printer. This is what school normally means by examine poetry.

Sounds like a shit teacher, but that is one of the faults of poetry is that you don't know what to analyze and what is a mistake, but death of the author is a thing and sometimes it's more fun to consider a fuckup intentional if it can be justified

Though there was a bit in Alice in Wonderland where everyone keeps asking how a Raven is like a Writing desk, and the editor thought that one of the lines was an error so it never got answered.

"Because it can produce a few notes, though they are very flat, and it is never put with the wrong end in front!" (Note, it was meant to say "Nevar," which is '"raven" backwards.)
