Well, for the last scene, it wouldn't be surprising given that she was a villianess in her previous life, but she is using her mind for good. All the young ladies saw her mother fly off the rails, and will spread it like wild fire. They also saw Cedric coming to save her, so it kills two birds with one stone. Ced may not like it, but it's all a means to an end.

Wouldn't be surprised if MC hadn't planned on her mother getting angry and causing a commotion in front of her tea party guests. Likely hadn't planned on such a severe beating though. In any case, why is the mother so angry at the MC? It's that corrupt noble's fault Lawrence got in trouble for associating with him due to human trafficking of kids, but the Grand Duke likely not going to go after Lawrence due to MC so what prompted the beat down?

@KenOne You're mistaken. She doesn't see her daughter as property, she sees her daughter as ugly and useless worth less than property except for when she's doing something for Lawrence whether it's serving him good tea or conspiring against his enemies. Agree the extreme favoritism of Lawrence over MC is beyond the pale. Wonder if hates MC so much because sees so much of herself in MC who is getting more beautiful as matures and very intelligent while she is getting older and knows her only value is the fleeting favor from the emperor and whatever can get from Lawrence becoming the new emperor.

@Mathiason I mean the last panel when Ced is carrying out, Mommy Dearest screams "She is mine!" which is clear signs of her seeing Tia as a possession/property and something she owns, not person. She can beat her or kill her if she wants to, she said. I doubt she is jealous of Tia, she's too shallow for that. She sees a pet in my opinion, than a rival to be jealous of which is why she is abusive. Tia has been beneath her from the start.

The mother might be the emperor's concubine but that title holds no power or wealth. She has her current titled and wealth because she is Tia's mother. So Tia needs to be under her control for her to keep her power. I think she keeps on telling Tia is ugly and useless and that no one wants her in order for Tia to remain her "property".
She abuses and humiliated Tia in public ordered to keep her in-check and keep Tia's self-esteem low, so Tia will not dare reach out to outsiders again.
