Some clarification. The older sister has been protecting the little sister, though bluntly.
Keeping Alabama father in check, and reminding her sister of what's to come, and remind others to assist her in noble etiquette.
She does check up on her, but never socialize as she spent free time studying.

Funny how we go from the worst of the series to one of the best right off the bat, isn't it? This touches on the right notes for a lot of things - it hits some emotional notes for me, and actually looks at what's involved in this type of 'rags to riches' stories for the pieces that often get ignored, and treats both the 'villainess' and 'heroine' as characters with their own thoughts and depth.
