Hey man, why did that have to be a public breakup? Like MAYBE it'd be one thing if she was accused of anything, but it only looks bad for him. Imagine being openly mad that a girl is taller than you. Pathetic.

Anyways this one was actually so refreshing. The "Heroine" wasn't intentionally being a green tea witch, and honestly? Not a bad call to go for a non-love interest. Too bad he sucks

If they fleshed out these plot movers to be actual characters, I'd read a volume of this

Like a lot of people, this one didn't do it for me and the story felt like it failed or fumbled a lot of its aspects.

I kind of feel like this really only clicked for those whose kinks are crossdressing and yuri, and since that's not me I wasn't able to look past the problems.

1) The FL's only issue leading to the rejection by the ML is that he doesn't find her attractive, and yet she looks just like any number of stunningly attractive manga characters. I get that the issue is his own and not that she's actually ugly or whatever, but it's less effective when she's drawn to appear gorgeous instead of maybe plain or with harsh features that aren't always otherwise used in character designs that get lauded in-universe as stunning. She's not accused of actually being a villainess in action and yet nobody reacts to how dumb this all is if he's just spouting off because he doesn't think his fiance is cute enough.

2) The new fiancee appears to be willingly going along with everything to begin with. Not maliciously like some stories where we get smug smirks and chuckles as the FL gets torn down ,but she smiles the whole time, appears to like being around the ML, doesn't object to anything, and seems for all the world as if she's in on this whole broken engagement plan. Then all of a sudden that changes and we find that she hates the guy too so that it justifies her running off to the salon and being charmed by the disguised FL. The revelation that she hates him and thinks he's awful immediately makes the first half of the story make less sense because she's not with him for personal reasons. And the fact that she so easily dumps him suggests that she wasn't just swallowing her frustrations for money/power/whatever because she forfeits all of that with ease and not a concern.

3) the revelation that the fiancee is a reincarnator is 100% pointless. Literally it changes nothing about the story whatsoever because all it adds is her private justification for being with him on the basis of choosing a mob character in this otome game universe. But outwardly that doesn't matter at all. The world being an otome game has no bearing on anything, her knowledge is rendered useless by how she explicitly says she went after a guy who wasn't a capture target and thus she has no story info on him, and nothing about how she acts requires her to have foreknowledge of game plot or characters. If anything it makes some of her decisions dumber because it means she's putting up with a character she admits is an awful dickhead when she knows there are better options and yet doesn't really justify it other than the shallow "I wanted to try something different" which doesn't justify why she sticks it out with him for as long as she does.

4) Then the plot just sort of stops short of the end so we can get a few pages gushing about crossdressing ladies.

I do get that after like 50 chapters of these sorts of stories we're going to hit a point where there aren't that many original ideas (especially in the manga universe, where truly different original ideas seem like they're looked down on instead of "just do it like the popular thing, but a tiny bit different.") but I have to wonder if this is the decline phase of this anthology unless someone really shakes up the status quo.

This isn't the worst story in the series, but it's definitely near the bottom for me.

This is like if the author like Ouran High School Host Club and wanted to force that into a villainess anthology.

if they pushed certain themes or tropes more, it would definitely hit more strongly. make it more campy!! as it is, the art and crossdressing ladies is A++ but everything else is about a C

Premise is fun, but it does feel like it's lacking a bit of bite.

Like, the prince still got off too lightly, and I feel like I couldn't quite follow the logic of the payback. Also, while it's not like she was stealing anything valuable, the reincarnator still stole a lady's man and everyone seems okay with it. Might have been better if she was an unwilling object of his affection.

Also, her transformation was a bit too abrupt when that should really have been the meat of the story. The condemnation event could have been a flashback, I think.

i know not to expect yuri, so i'm not disappointed in that regards but the story was definitely weaker here. the premise is fun but i would have liked more focus on FL and the duchess, even if only in a friendship/confidante aspect.

In general I definitely can't argue that it fumbled, however, this point I think you are far off on. He doesn't ever call her ugly and it doesn't really seem like that is the angle the author is going for. The focus is on her height(combined with her lack of bust) and her deep voice along with 'villainess' like features, the whole thing is focusing on the fact that she is 'masculine'. A lot of women who are really tall can end up with appearance related insecurities. At least in part due to the expectation/preference of men for women to be small and cute, which is where the author here seems to be focusing. I actually think the author here did a good focus, you basically are rarely going to find a manga lead who isn't stunningly attractive in some way, particularly in a romance. However, you can have a character who is attractive, but outside societal norms and thus has their appearance disparaged without running into the issues of calling an objectively attractive character ugly.

Though I do wonder if 175cm is an 'unreasonably tall' height for a woman. Japanese are shorter on average, but that is what 5 foot 8 inches? 5 foot 9 inches? At least from an American standpoint if they had not outright stated her height I would have been imagining her to be 6 foot or more. At 175cm feels like the guy is just an insecure shorty, which might be part of the point, but the work doesn't really do much to build on anyone's character so I don't feel certain of it.

As for no one else reacts? Not being able to read Japanese means I can't read the crowd noises, but the overall it does seem to indicate that no one cares. Which makes sense. This guy is effectively a nobody who is making a lot of noise. So the crowd effectively just murmurs and moves on. It isn't any of their business, except for the Duchess who has her own reasons to want to get involved. Remember this guy isn't a prince, the Otome reincarnation thing actually helps serve to quickly tell us that the guy is a nobody, he didn't qualify to be a love interest despite being in the age group. So unimportant he is that he wasn't detailed in any way in the character guide(though I have my doubts this was an intentional way of revealing how unimportant he was without having to go into world building, but it does do that regardless of intent). So of course the crowd doesn't care if he is being dumb. He is just that unimportant. Of course if the crowd noises are affirmation of his statements then I am way off, but my reading of the scene is that the crowd isn't particularly invested in this and don't really care outside of oh hey interesting to watch someone slash and burn their relationship drama type thing. So my question to you is what do you expect the crowd to do in this situation? Even in the modern era if someone makes a loud breakup over stupid reasons in a public space what do you think the crowd will do? Probably not much other than various background noise as they talk to their companions, and maybe a 'Nobody Cares dude!' depending on how frisky the crowd is feeling. Most people simply aren't going to get involved unless it goes into violence or past a certian point on their verbal abuse threshold, or in the case of most otome type manga it involves a very important political figure. Someone who would probably be detailed in a character guide.

This was fine, not really my cup of tea though...maybe if it landed more in Jellyfish Princess way of the Duchess being a cross dressing man to bring out MC's appeal as another crossdresser? And while it doesn't need romance, felt kind of annoying the Isekai-er kinda got away with everything. I might of liked it better if after duping her, MC then calls her out properly or gets away with humiliating her as revenge? Not sure.
