Some molten hot takes, not sure if my favourite is "This is a bad cooking manga because I dont like fried chicken" or "Dungeon Meshi is slice of life."

@osqmu Dungeon Meshi has such clear panelling and designs compared to this smudgy art and it's worlds better for me personally too, so i agree with Zero. Especially the food making process is so detailed and thats like the main point of a food manga. This one you can barely make out what it's supposed to be alot and even if you do it barely shows the cooking process if at all in a cooking manga.

@Uthred I think you should look up what SoL Elements mean or that the other person mainly complained that for a food manga the cooking aspect is pretty bland and bad looking, which i wholeheartedly agree with. For a cooking manga this one has barely any imagination and the bad art just kills it. I mean what good is a food manga, if the Food is drawn bad and what good is the fantasy, if the food doesnt look unique?

The only reason i continue to read this and rated it a 9 is the beast tamer adventure. I like Fenrir and Sui, but that's basically all i like is why i prefer the side manga more. The food aspects of the manga look like shit to me lol. Still happy it gets translated, but boy people here acting like it's not one of the worst looking monthly.

Just admit you guys are just here for Fenrir and Sui and dont give a flying fuck about Tsuyoshi or the cooking lol.

No thanks I'm perfectly familiar with what slice of life means as a genre and Dungeon Meshi sure as fuck doesn't fall within that genre unless you are using a definition so loose as to make the genre entirely pointless. Next to none of the page count is given over to depicting "mundane experiences".

I agree that the art is at best serviceable rather than good. But you, like a lot of people, seem to have very narrow and pre-conceived notions of what a "food manga" should be and the majority of the complaints are because this doesn't adhere to that definition. This one definitely isn't about well drawn "food porn" and the entire premise is that he's making fairly mundane Japanese junk/comfort food. If you were looking for "fantasy food" it was pretty clear from the start this wasn't going to (no pun intended) deliver that. The food in this isn't really the focus, it's a means to an end, a narrative device to justify plot contrivances and push the plot forward. In short the food element of this story is largely "He can make nice food. The end." It's perfectly fine not to enjoy that, or to prefer something else. But it reads as pretty narrow minded to see people complain "y dis not lieke udder fud mangaz???"

meh but if every food manga showed the process of making food, 80% of the whole thing would be made up of recipes, so no.
and actually, the main point of a food manga is not the food making process in most cases. no one actually bothers to carefully read about how it's made lmao, except maybe some people, but that's the minority.
most of the time, the main focus of the food parts would be the reactions, what ppl rate it, that kinda thing. they might add simple processes but there's no way most authors will just gonna sit there drawing panels about each process, save for maybe some.
not a lot of ppl spend hours drawing about every crumb on a pie or every fly that flitters by yknow
though if you're a cook or someone that admires food/loves imagining food, etc, yeah you would probably prefer those
but if you're just a reader, is there really a point in showing every process? are you going to memorize the recipes to make every single last one of them?

You still dont understand what Slice of Life elements means. Also cooking up Strawmans wont work.

It's just lazily done in alot of ways and thats what these people complain about, which imo is obviously true. I mean 20 pages for a monthly series with such poor art is pretty shitty. No real showcase of the cooking process, even tho it's the maintheme is also a problem.

@osqmu
It should at least put some effort into making and explaining some of it or showcase the cooking process more to make it interesting. I'm not that into cooking, but i could appreciate Shokugeki no Souma and Dungeon Meshi and it really made the cooking interesting and made me try some similiar recipes. This one is the most barebone cooking manga i know of lol.

Its just for the Beast Companions for me as the cooking aspect is just so lazily done and cooking is like super duper interesting to watch. You say who would want to read that, but you know how popular cooking shows are? Because people who read/watch cooking stuff will obviously want it to focus on it lol<.<

Argueing further is pointless though. I mean it's pretty obvious why and what these 2 complained about, but some people here just misunderstand it on purpose and nitpick a tiny part.

When you look at the comments of a new updated series and have the fanboys get angry over an opinion on a cotroversial rated manga. Kek find it hilarious how angry people got. I checked the 1st chap just in case and my lord it was horrondous. Perfect example of shit tier copy pasta Isekai right here ha. Can i bring food on an Adventure? No dipshit just starve to death.

@rizal12345 tbf, isekai with ACTUAL plot? Did it exist anymore? ... Even this is actually more refreshing that the generic copy-pasta trash isekai that we are accustomed to.
