Totally not mentioned in the chapter, but I find it interesting that they're pretty sure Dad will be able to take Yotsuyu down if needed.

I think Fox-Dad protests too much and is happy to have at least one of his daughters hanging around with her friends.

That last page with Yotsuyu and the bar of 70% cacao. :pacman:
Not the same, but as a child I definitely grabbed a handful of semi-sweet chocolate chips when I didn't think my mom was looking and made the same face. :shamihuh:

Chocolate prices have been increasing outrageously during the last decade, or so. I have certainly switched to cheaper chocolate, which is unsurprisingly ~50% cacao, instead of 70%. Of course milk chocolate is only something like 30% cacao, but strangely enough milk chocolate prices have gone up similarly, even though the effect should obviously be lesser due to the lower cacao content. Business is business, I suppose.

It's really time the guys explained to their yokai that this chocolate business is not some ancient cultural tradition. It's fine not to participate, or at least switch to a less problematic substance. I'd be pretty pissed if my fiancee kept poisoning herself for such a dumb reason...

Hell, if it has to be sweets, just make caramel. Easy and mostly safe even to animals, provided you don't add artificial sweeteners like xylitol and they eat mmoderate amounts.

Toda is gonna get some chocolate-covered crickets because she saw it as a novelty or something.

Also... why does Yotsuyu know about archaic nobility structure? Even if she's that old, wasn't she totally separated from civilization until Toda found her?

That got me while TLing, I had to make sure that couldn't mean anything else (even though it's so unlikely given what it is). Best I could come up with is that she's told us she did occasionally creep around human villages (like when she'd drink water from shrine purification fountains) so at some point she must have picked a few things up. Like she already knew Japanese when he met her (c46). She says she's been keeping to herself so doesn't need a name, but obviously she's picked up some stuff by osmosis.

Ginei also seems like the type where he behaves a bit more in front of new people but does enjoy being relied upon. Although I think he would have enjoyed it more if during thr chocolate time he and Toda were having drinks and telling stories to each other.

He knows a lot of people, but I'm also guessing he doesn't have many guy friends he can just hang out with. On one hand he's one of the three village elders and the strongest guy in the village and responsible for training up the other warriors, so good luck there (you can't get really chummy with your shisho). And then Goro's his son-in-law, Doji's not really a party guy, and Kinka's not one of the guys (and not that strong with alcohol). He'd probably kill for a drinking buddy - though I don't think Toda could be that as he is.

Now I feel bad for Dad!
