Oh, SNAP! It was GORO, not Akane, who big timed Megane-Tama with his power of salaryman business etiquette. You love to see it. The beneficence of the gods we've met in the work is a nice contrast to the day-to-day hassle of working with intermediaries. It was nice to see that Akane's reputation precedes her, even if she didn't rub it in the face of Megane-Tama. On a forward-looking note, I took notice when Ukano Mitama Okami-sama said that Kogane's curse is nothing serious. Zanma sensei usually doesn't do things for no reason, so I wonder if we'll see some serious supernatural escalation in the future. Thanks as always to sarusa.

Interesting, this makes me think that Akane could likely heal her on her own, but the rules of heaven hold her back from doing so.

And/or doesn't possess the knowledge required to. Though, since the people of her village were ordered to not get involved, that's also a likely factor as well

Yeah, that could have been a thing in the more old-fashioned stories where they were parables about the value of being respectful and cherishing those close to you. But I like these much better where the Kami are portrayed like real people who don't take themselves any more seriously than they absolutely have to.

That said, I bet if Goro had thrown down with Tama, then Tama would have been the one to get the lecture...

The title Akane earned in C55 was 地狐 (Dehu, Earth Fox). This is pretty damn obscure - I'm not finding much, though Zanma-sensei is great at digging up obscure stuff like the Furutsubaki 🤣 . But so far we've seen no indication that she has any healing abilities. I think if she could have cured Kogane she just would have, or at least she would have said why she wasn't allowed to.

Exactly, she would have mentioned something about it at least. Or Goro would have noticed her look guilty or SOMETHING so it could come up later. But there wasn't anything like that.

Sooooo, Akane has the nickname of "wicked kitsune", huh. That's funny. But man, that culture of ostracizing someone if they rejected the request once is brutal. Humanity still has a long way to go
