On the one hand, the master's been suspicious since the start, but without knowing what that thing is it makes me wonder if this is some kind of dungeon-implanted suspicion (since the orb has the same wavy background as the room they're currently in) by whatever the orb object is.

Looks like Kalos is a man.

I checked the raws of a few chapters with Kalos but didn't see any gender pronouns (which is normal for Japanese) or other descriptors.

I then checked the web novel (Japanese) for Kalos's introductory chapter. They are described as male.
