I think their reason is pretty pure. They think Est would die if he continued.

But if that is not enough, so is a group not allowed to kick anyone for anything? They tried their best by giving him severance pay. If that is not enough, What would be the correct way of making someone leave the group?

As for the NTR misunderstanding, that is still on Est, he didn't listen to "NTR" guy. Est is the asshole on this one.

Frankly, I don't give a shit continuing on to convince you that Est is still a dick. I hope you think that at least, that the author is trying to make us sympathize with the banisher and not sympathize with the banished.

My point is, this isn't a true banisher pov story. No banished MC in a banished story actually look back to take pleasure. Whether or not you think banished MC deserves watching the party suffers doesn't matter because no banished MC cares. Most of them would most likely forgive the banisher if they had the attitude of the current Banisher party and not overly the top cartoony villainous attitude like most banishers do.
Sure, if they either didn't have a special connection, or they themselves knew they were lacking, or the issue would've been mutual sure, but you don't have any of this here.

Est is aware he was lacking in certain areas, but he strived to improve whilst still being core of the party to some degree, then gets just told to 'fuck off' by his childhood sweetheart, who appears to be getting it on with Daru.

Now tell me, he wouldn't want to see them at least suffer some pain, after also experiencing death inside the dungeon due him being completely heartbroken.

There isn't anything to sympathise with on the banishers side, but you can with Est, which makes this entire story just look like a fever dream of some hypocrites.

I totally agree with you.
Best thing would have been to tell the truth at least once. "After seeing you almost dying we think it's too dangerous for you. We don't do this because we hate but because we care for you. That's why we want you to keep living with us and we'll help you to find a more suitable occupation." Even though it's still a shitty outcome for Est and he could have reacted negatively (even after the misundertanding everything could have been solved after talking withe Est and Athena; you know, like friends) it's at least better than the complete opposite "Your're weak, we are great, you are dragging us down, it's all about business" because, even though in some previous comments it's seen differently, it's not just about business. In the setting of this story friendship is said to be the reason why they kicked him out. If they weren't supposed to be friends they wouldn't have kicked him out because it's not uncommon for adventurers to die.
And that's the problem with the whole story (at least for me). The concept of friendship here is a complete farce. They kick him out because he's their precious friend but don't behave like friends before and after the incident. I'm sure after this chapter they won't waste any thought on Est. There won't be a reflecting Athena who thinks about what caused the change in Est's behaviour and possible ways to help him to get back on track ("he's drunk on power, nothing we can do about it). After seeing how depressed she was shortly I was hoping for it but after Daru's declaration that he will stick to her and that he will make the group stronger, I'm sure that "great" Daru will distract Athena with some great training and she will gladly accept because she doesn't really want to think about her childhood friend whom she kicked out because he's so precious to her. ("he's drunk on power, he's the bad guy, don't waste any more thoughts") Let's start admiring Daru and forget my precious friend. I hoped her expression was a shocked expression realizing that her childhood completely changed his personality but - as mentioned in a previous comment - it's just about her being treated bad because of spelling out their weakness (thus make her the victim). "Just accept that this is Est's true character, he was always like this but couldn't act accordingly because he lacked power." Superficial to the end!
I really regret having started this story because even though I don't plan to continue reading, I know exactly that there will be a good ending for Athena's party (because the author wants them to be the hard-working heroes) and a bad ending for Est (because he's the power drunk OP cheat character). "Forget about character development and stop questioning their motives, just accept their roles!"

There's also that part where he, alone, with just a practice in swordsmanship training went to try his strength in a place where a full party goes. He didn't knew about his "plot armor" would activate, doesn't look like he was stupid, so going there probably was one way route... with friends like these...

It would be great idea (as mentioned in one of the comments) if he really turned into a Demon Lord, change appearance drastically and party dispatch to defeat him, just to notice after after death it was him turned by anguish and jealousy, with them facing the fact they caused it all, living in regret.

But it's unlikely, since people already are victim blaming by getting wrong conclusions from the story...

Man, the comments section for this is already more sane and mature than the entire cast of the manga...

Seriously, all of this could have been avoided if any of these folks could communicate their thoughts instead of inner monologue-ing while things snowball.

Athena completely botched the start by not just telling him why he was let go properly. Mage girl is useless outside of her lust for Athena. Dal is apparently smarter and more skilled than he seems, but holds back and acts like a schmuck while thinking about everything rather than actually trying to fix anything!

And Est... I get that some sympathize with him, and others think he is being a dick. I say; he is as bad/stupid as the rest of them! He never communicates to Athena that he loves her, sees her "with" Dal, refuses to listen or try to talk to her about it - yeah it looked bad, but only Dal reacted to his presence... He didn't try to hear Athena out, or notice that more than them screwing - it looked like Dal was taking advantage of his beloved!

Instead he storms off, leaving her literally in the arms of her possible assaulter - and decided that Dal and his "girlfriend" betrayed him! (Again, he never confessed to her or moved their relationship forward. Childhood friendship does not give you ownership!) Then went full on catty bitch mode, preferring to hate and publicly humiliate the person he grew up with rather than try to freaking talk!

So yeah; I regret reading this far, everyone is terrible, and I hope they all fall into a ravine full of sharp rocks.

I seriously hope there isn't any a malicious agenda from one of the party members here. Like they're just bumbling around especially the emotional scars that resulted from est banishment.

Cause if at least one of them is jealous of est or anything out side the reason of "they don't want est to die"

Then the story is no different from any banishment manga. Which I don't like this manga to become.

I'd rather have some stupid misunderstandings and them being stupid people instead of them being malicious.

Sorry, this post is a bit longer but I just had to get this off my chest.

The problem is that the very core of the story doesn't work:
Athena tries to "save" him by treating him like scum and (surprise surprise) he dives into a dungeon and nearly dies.
If you're trying to focus on the party who exiled the op party member (I think the main theme will be cheat ability vs effort) you shouldn't make them friends or let them seperate in a friendly way.
The way it happened in this manga makes it impossible to like any of the party members.

Athena: In the way she parted with him she should realize that she left him with nothing. He lost his place to live (literally), his party members/friends and the love of his life (even if she doesn't know, she's still his best friend/childhood friend). There are two possible outcomes. Either he's total devastated or he starts to hate the people who treated him that way (I think he chose both after he even tried to reconcile and the "misunderstanding" happened). The author tried to make her the damsel in distress saved by the NTR-MC (saves her when she nearly dies, supports her, defend her in front of Est), but though she's Est's former best friend, she doesn't notice how broken he is and doesn't question what caused the change in his behaviour. Making Est the villain simply doesn't work!

Daru: Though he's supposed the MC who saves the day, he is the most detestable character in the story. In everything he does he seems to have ulterior motives. He is the one who knows all the truths and could solve all the "misunderstandings" but he doesn't. He knows that Est loves Athena and thus why Est is so angry but he doesn't tell Athena what happened that night (he's not "drowned in power"; nice try author). I think he's even intentionally provoking Est when he takes Athena in his arm in this chapter thinking about what happened that night. He treats Ets like a stranger and seems to be happy that he got rid of him ("Was this girl always such a cutie"). I think it's really hard to find someone who likes the thought that this "good" guy could actually suceed in winning Athena (except NTR fans).

The other ones are just lame side characters (especially the guileful elf).

Against the intention of the author Est is the only person you can sympathize with. For the rest of the party (who betrayed him and tried to make him the bad guy) you just wish the worst. Thus, the bad ratings are not really surprising because it's not fun to read a story about people you just have to hate and pretend they are heroes.

PS: Does anybody know how the story between the three of them ends (webnovel). Tried to read it but was not masochistic enough to finish it.
Agree with some points, most of the party are selfish, the leader was selfish... There are many ways to banish him, since both were friends from long ago...

Correctly you... author make him a dick one... for the sake of the plot... '-' one side "have" to be the villain, but he forgot that any side of pov, both side are all villain and turned in an unliked characters... '-'
I am really disappointed in this story because I really want to see a true banisher side of the story.

Usually, the banishers are the dicks while the banished find freedom and peace. But in this story the banished one is just a dick.

Elf-girl definitely wanted him to disappear because she didn't want him to be close to Athena. (she and MC talk about it).
Even if you say that Daru wasn't in love in the beginning (the direction of this manga is pretty obvious; for all people who continue reading I hope that they axed the manga before actually somethings happens as the manga has just a few chapters) I think that he wanted to get rid of him not for Est's sake but for the growth of Athena.
If you look at his "friends" Est is actually lucky to be not in this crappy party any more. They are absolutely no people you can sympathize with.
The difference to other banishment mangas is that the author tries to make the banished one the villain even if it doesn't make any sense.
Even though Athena is supposed to be the female MC who becomes stronger she's written as a weak character who is just following ending in Daru's arms.
Est is also stupid but at least you can sympathize with him. If you want to have a look at the quality of the story just have a look at the ratings of the webnovel.

Jesus author...wtf?
U made everyone in the supposed protagonist party so unlikable...Athena is dumb for not talking with Ent and going with the worst approach possible, Scar guy is knowingly not explaining the misunderstanding to Ent, or telling Athena about it, which would make her understand why Ent is being an asshole, elf girl and dragon girl are just there, being assholes
And for some forsaken reason author decided to NTR the banished guy
  • scar dude knows that Ent is in love with athena, but he starts thinking that shes cute
  • he doesnt clarify the misunderstanding leading to a bigger crack in their relationship
  • clarified that scar dude is only 20 years old to again make readers ok with the future NTR romance
  • author makes Ent be extra assholy (when in all other banished mangas the banished dude just doesnt talk to the ex party and just keeps to himself, but here we gotta make him look like an asshole so the NTR future romance si more accepted
  • he says he supports her one time and she looks like she is catching feelings for him even tho Ent was supporting her for so long that she literally cannot fight without his support
  • then they say Ent support was actually ''very bad'' for her coz he was ''doing too much'' and he kept her from growing and saying again that it was coz he was in love with her
  • and finally we already know that scar dude is part of the party that saved them both when they were kids, so we can have the reveal later and then athena will fully catch feelings for him, coz u know the whole thing between admiration=love cliche thingy

what a fuckfest

Dal is also wearing what his previous party had, so probably Dal is alone like now, like Est. I do think Dal sympathizes with Est.

Est is being an asshole right now, but not without reason.

And I will say this: if you can't protect your backlines in a dungeon, the problem isn't the one buffing your party, the problem is you being too weak and/or inexperienced to keep them from being attacked.

She expelled him because he couldn't enchant himself and the party was unable to keep him from getting injured, but that's more of the party's responsibility than his, given his role. And if she was too inexperienced to see it, then she is the one who isn't worthy of becoming the strongest adventurer.

And the way Est is acting is understandable. Douchey, yes, but I can see where he's coming from.

Alright, I'm a fan of NTR, but I will have to disagree with you, there's nothing to like about Daru x Athena even from that perspective.

I like to equate NTR with the slasher horror genre - it's all about the protagonists being placed in a hopeless situation they have no way of overcoming and just watching them suffer until the story ends. NTR is different from cheating because the characters don't need to be in a romantic relationship, even a one-sided crush is enough to create a good NTR story (conversely, a character cheating isn't necessarily NTR because the husband/boyfriend might not even show up in the story).

This story fails as NTR because we are not exploring the feelings of the guy with one-sided feelings actually being cucked. We're watching things from Daru's POV, and all we see is Est being a dick (to the people that deserve it) here and there while Daru himself acts like a hypocrite at every turn.

NTR is like an emotional roller coaster - the shock of having your pure and wholesome crush being destroyed by someone more proactive than you taking the lead, finding out the girl you believed to be gentle and loyal was a kinky slut that will have sex with everyone else but never you, being forced to watch your significant other r**ed in front of you and realizing she's enjoying it, or any other form of having your lover stolen from you when you could have done something to prevent but couldn't because you were either physically powerless or took too long to act, hence the 寝/Ne (sleep) in 寝取られ/Netorare (having something taken from you while you sleep).

This story fails as an NTR because Est's feelings towards Athena are nothing more than a trigger for him to believe they wanted him gone so they could bang, but after that scene of him misunderstanding things, it's all gone. Clearly the only thing he feels for her is spite now, and since we're not even exploring his POV, the story fails as NTR as well.

So, no, I don't think even NTR fans would enjoy Daru x Athena.

I don't think so. If Dal or Daru sympathized with Est, he would make an effort to reach out or prevent him from being expelled in the first place (like mentoring and training the guy like he did with Frey). But Dal just sat there and went along with the expulsion, then did virtually jackshit for Est when he clearly could have!
